Posies Tape Trading

One of my favorite bands of all time is Seattle's The Posies. In the spring of 1998, an interview I conducted with Jon Auer & Ken Stringfellow yielded one of the projects I am most proud of, At Least, At Last, a 4CD boxed set of Posies demos, outtakes and live performances now on its second printing on Not Lame Records. Before this project began I had begun gathering Posies rarities. Thanks to the relationship I developed with current and former Posies I have gathered probably the biggest collection of "unofficial" Posies recordings available from anyone not in the band! I also have many recordings of post-Posies side projects as well. I must take this opportunity to thank Jon Auer, Ken Stringfellow, Mike Musburger and Rick Roberts for their generosity in sharing tapes from their private archives and letting me record their more recent efforts both with and away from The Posies during the 1998-2006 Seattle period.

I trade Posies bootlegs mostly for other Posies bootlegs that are not listed below but you can find my other trading page from www.redchapterjubilee.com. I'm always looking for stuff I don't have. I trade copies of my collection on CD or with Bit Torrent through Dime a Dozen. Allow for extra time for big trades. Please email me at redchapterjubilee@yahoo.com to discuss how to trade with me. I can always be bribed by spindles of 80-minute data CD-R's.

Some of these shows came directly from members of the Posies. In that situation, I took their cassettes and mastered them.

  • Mrs. Robinson/I'm Looking Through You/Don't Look Away/Promise/Swinging Party/I've Just Seen a Face/Standing Still/That's Entertainment/The Killing Moon/I Can't Reach You/ English Rose/Stretch Out and Wait/Separate Beds/Greetings To the New Brunette/Surely You Jest/Superman/Believe In Something Other/I May Hate You Sometimes/So Sad About Us - Jon and Ken at FOE, Bellingham 8/27/87 (ASDB, 60 min.) This is the very first public show Jon and Ken ever played together. The show is important enough for it's historic value but it's also interesting to hear their early influences shown in their cover tune selections.
NOTE: This recording of "Believe In Something Other" can be found on the At Least, At Last 4CD boxed set.
  • Under Easy/Uncombined/Blind Eyes Open/Compliment/Every Word Means No/Ironing Tuesdays/ The Longest Line/Over Under Sideways Down/She Said She Said/Believe In Something Other/I May Hate you Sometimes/Surrender - The Up & Up, Bellingham 5/29/88 (ASDB, 48 min.) The sound's crappy even for a board tape. And the performance is very rough but hey, it's still a rare recording and the earliest full-band performance I've heard. Ken saws away all night at an acoustic with the band and they play "Surrender" before they actually knew it! From the Mike Musburger collection.
  • Under Easy/What Little Remains/Uncombined/Ironing Tuesdays/I May Hate You Sometimes/ Compliment/Help Yourself - rehearsals, Summer 1988 (AAUD, 22 min.) A rare glimpse into a Posies rehearsal. Not too shabby for early run-throughs. From the Mike Musburger collection.
  • Under Easy/Uncombined/Keep Me Guessing/My Big Mouth/Compliment/Suddenly Mary/Blind Eyes Open/The Longest Line/Over Under Sideways Down/Believe In Something Other/Saying Sorry To Myself/Any Other Way/I May Hate You Sometimes - Pine Street Theater, Portland 12/2/88 (ASDB, 44 min.) Great performance, energetic and full of the famous Posie wit. From the Mike Musburger collection.
  • Compliment/Suddenly Mary/Believe In Something Other/Saying Sorry To Myself/Any Other Way/I May Hate You Sometimes - Moore Theater, Seattle 12/8/88 (ASDB, 22 min.) Accapella intros on "Suddenly Mary" and "I May Hate you Sometimes." Great mix. From the Mike Musburger collection.
NOTE: This recording of "I May Hate You Sometimes" can be found on the At Least, At Last 4CD boxed set.
  • Under Easy/Ironing Tuesdays/Keep Me Guessing/My Big Mouth/At Least For Now/Respectable Street/What Little Remains/Like Me Too/Birthday/Rain/Uncombined/Flood of Sunshine/Open My Eyes/Believe In Something Other/Saying Sorry To Myself/Compliment/Suddenly Mary/Sweet Emotion/Road House Blues/Blind Eyes Open/The Longest Line/Over Under Sideways Down - Lewis and Clark College, Portland 2/12/89 (AAUD, 74 min.) Very good audience recording with a set list unmatched elsewhere. In a dorm lobby nonetheless! The best Posies boot I have! Great clarity for an audience cassette and an unparalleled setlist. From the Mike Musburger collection.
  • Under Easy/Blind Eyes Open/The Longest Line/I May Hate You Sometimes/Ironing Tuesdays/ Believe In Something Other/Compliment/At Least For Now/Uncombined/My Big Mouth/Golden Blunders/Suddenly Mary/Any Other Way/King Midas In Reverse - North Seattle Community College, March 1989 (AAUD/ASDB video matrix) - Review forthcoming.
  • Under Easy/Blind Eyes Open/The Longest Line/Over Under Sideways Down/I May Hate You Sometimes/Believe In Something Other/Compliment/My Big Mouth/Suddenly Mary/Any Other Way/ King Midas In Reverse - Victor Steinbrueck Park, Seattle 5/28/89 (DSDB/AUD, 42 min.) A slight delay between the left and right channels but a neat recording all the same. Performance is good too though a couple of tracks are cut at the end.
  • Uncombined/Everyone Moves Away/Magnifying Mirror/Spite and Malice/Compliment/Suddenly Mary/Saying Sorry To Myself/What Little Remains/You Avoid Parties/Under Easy/Believe In Something Other/The Longest Line/My Big Mouth/At Least For Now/Any Other Way/Ironing Tuesdays/Keep Me Guessing/I May Hate You Sometimes/Flood of Sunshine/Golden Blunders - Jon and Ken at U-Bistro, Seattle 8/3/89 (AAUD, 74 min.) Full of rare "new" songs and the sounds of cutlery, the Posies were most at ease as a duo. The sound quality isn't too great though. From the Mike Musburger collection.
  • I May Hate You Sometimes/Compliment/Suddenly Mary/Any Other Way/King Midas In Reverse - Jon and Ken on KBCS Bellevue, September 1989 (AFM, 14 min.) A+: Ken on 12-string, super- imposed references to George Martin and Muamar Qadafi and the unveiling of songs intended for Dear 23. This radio show also is the source of almost everyone’s copy of The Milkcrate Sessions, Jon and Ken’s 1988 four-track demo sessions for Dear 23 (covered later) and unreleased studio versions of four Dear 23 tracks (also covered later).
  • You Avoid Parties/My Big Mouth/Ironing Tuesdays/What Little Remains/Compliment/Flood of Sunshine/Suddenly Mary/Believe In Something Other/Saying Sorry To Myself/King Midas In Reverse/Sweet Emotion – Harpo's, Victoria 10/21/89 (ASDB, 54 min.) A great performance before the Posies became Big Rock. The boys are at their finest with their witty on-stage banter about their upcoming “job” working on their new TV pilot Chef!
  • Feel/Compliment/Suddenly Mary/Any Other Way/King Midas In Reverse/Sweet Emotion - UVIC Center, Victoria 11/17/89 (ASDB, 26 min.) The sound quality is great and the performance is tight and concise. From the Mike Musburger collection.
  • My Big Mouth/Suddenly Mary/Any Other Way/Apology/Paint Me/Help Yourself/I Am the Cosmos/ Flood of Sunshine/Blind Eyes Open - KDHX St. Louis 12/19/89 (AFM, 39 min.) Killer live show with great version of “Blind Eyes Open” but notable tape wow and flutter.
  • Under Easy/My Big Mouth/At Least For Now/Compliment/Suddenly Mary/What Little Remains/I May Hate You Sometimes/Any Other Way - University Coffee Shop, Seattle 1990 (AAUD, 36 min.) The sound is rough but this is one of the three full-band acoustic recordings I have. Nice bebop jam in the middle of the set and a cowboy version of “Under Easy.” The first live Posies bootleg I ever traded for.
  • Suddenly Mary/Any Other Way - Jon and Ken on KUKQ Tempe 4/30/90 (AFM, 8 min.) Lots of hiss but cool performance. From the Mike Musburger collection.
  • This One's Taken/You Avoid Parties/Suddenly Mary/Everyone Moves Away/Any Other Way/King Midas In Reverse - Jon and Ken at CMJ New Music Conference, New York 10/25/90 (AAUD, 25 min.) Good performance raises the grade of a bad recording. Lots of audience conversation. From the Mike Musburger collection.
  • Feel/Suddenly Mary/Help Yourself/Apology/I Am the Cosmos/Mrs. Green/Golden Blunders/ Flood of Sunshine/Any Other Way/Dreaming - The Edge, Palo Alto 11/14/90 (ASDB, 47 min.) Great clarity and an even better performance. Lots of famous Posie between-song banter. From the Mike Musburger collection.
  • My Big Mouth/Under Easy/Any Other Way/Suddenly Mary/Uncombined/At Least For Now/You Avoid Parties/Apology/Paint Me/Help Yourself - Chuy's, Tempe 11/30/90 (AAUD, 42 min.) A good show, good recording and a very rousing version of "Uncombined." From the Mike Musburger collection.
  • My Big Mouth/Under Easy/Any Other Way/I Am the Cosmos/You Avoid Parties/Apology/Paint Me/Help Yourself/Mrs. Green/Believe In Something Other/Suddenly Mary/Golden Blunders/Flood of Sunshine/Feel/Everyone Moves Away/Surrender - The Empire, Cleveland 12/5/90 (AFM, 77 min.) This is a radio broadcast of part of an opening show for The Replacements. Really rocking and energetic performance. This show was officially recorded by DGC for possible use as b-side fodder, and was also broadcast live from the club on WMMS. This version hails from a WMMS aircheck cassette made specifically for Rick Roberts.
  • This One's Taken/Believe In Something Other/Everyone Moves Away/Suddenly Mary/You Avoid Parties/Any Other Way/Golden Blunders/So Sad About Us - Jon and Ken at Off the Record, Encinitas 1/18/91 (ASDB, 40 min.) Pretty good recording of an early acoustic show.
  • My Big Mouth/Under Easy/Any Other Way/Suddenly Mary/Help Yourself/I Am the Cosmos/ Apology/Golden Blunders/Flood of Sunshine/Feel - Tower Theater, Houston 1/25/91 (ASDB, 42 min.) Energetic and quite confrontational. From the Mike Musburger collection.
  • My Big Mouth/Under Easy/Help Yourself/What Little Remains/Believe In Something Other/ Paint Me/Apology/At Least For Now/You Avoid Parties/This One's Taken/I Am the Cosmos/ Suddenly Mary/Compliment/Mrs. Green/Any Other Way/Golden Blunders/Flood of Sunshine/Feel/ Smash It Up - Pacific University, Cottage Grove 3/2/91 (ASDB, 80 min.) Great show with a great mix. The live debut of "This One's Taken." There is some tape wow-and-flutter at times but not that noticeable. From the Rick Roberts collection.
  • You Avoid Parties/This One's Taken/I Am the Cosmos/Believe In Something Other/Suddenly Mary/Compliment/Paint Me/Apology/Help Yourself/Golden Blunders/Flood of Sunshine/Feel/ Everyone Moves Away/Blind Eyes Open/Smash It Up - Melody Ballroom, Portland 3/3/91 (ASDB, 68 min.) Great recording of a very intense show. And full-band version of "Everyone Moves Away." From the Mike Musburger collection.
  • My Lonely Friend/Help Yourself/I Am the Cosmos/Farewell Typewriter/Apology/Going Going Gone/Golden Blunders/Suddenly Mary/Flood of Sunshine - Starfish Lounge, Vancouver 3/4/91 (ASDB, 37 min.) A very rare performance of one of Rick’s contributions to The Lost Sessions.
  • My Big Mouth/Suddenly Mary/This One's Taken/I Am the Cosmos - KISW Seattle 3/13/91 CD (Adub, 14 min.) The best full-band radio I've ever heard. Incredible. Full-band acoustic. From the Mike Musburger collection.
  • When You Dance I Can Really Love - Jon and Ken at KJJO Minneapolis 6/15/91 (Adub, 4 min.) A rare live recording of this unreleased Neil Young cover. From the Mike Musburger collection.
  • Any Other Way/Solar Sister/21/You Avoid Parties/Speed of Sound/Farewell Typewriter/Like Me Too/Love Letter Boxes/Magnifying Mirror/Apology/Fall Song/Earlier Than Expected/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Family Gun/Still There's Hope - Ken solo at Seattle Pacific University 2/4/92 (AAUD, 66 min.) According to Ken's comments throughout the show, this is the first Ken solo show. The setlist is full of great unreleased material and covers and Kim Warnick appears to sing the last song with Ken. Great show with a decent recording.
  • Looking Lost/Solar Sister/Golden Blunders/Farewell Typewriter/Start a Life/21/Apology/ When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Lights Out/Grow/Earlier Than Expected/Any Other Way/Definite Door/Coming Right Along/Suddenly Mary/Flood of Sunshine/Burn and Shine - RCKCNDY, Seattle 5/16/92 (DAUD, 77 min.) One of the best Posies shows I have. This is the first public performance of Frosting On the Beater tunes and a rare early appearance of Joe Bass with the group before Dave Fox joined the band.
NOTE: This recording of "Flood of Sunshine" can be found on the At Least, At Last 4CD boxed set.
  • Start a Life/Solar Sister/Golden Blunders/Grow/Earlier Than Expected/Any Other Way/ Looking Lost/21/Apology/Coming Right Along/Suddenly Mary/Lights Out/Definite Door/Love Letter Boxes/Flood of Sunshine/Burn and Shine/Black Night - Moore Theater, Seattle 6/26/92 (DAUD, 79 min.) An energetic show. The bootlegger recorded the show from the back of the room so the recording has plenty of room noise but the sound is clear. Steve Fisk sits in on organ for the Deep Purple cover.
  • Precious Moments - Jon and Ken on "Modern Rock Live" 1993 (AFM, 4 min.) From an interview/performance with Jim Carroll via satellite. The first time this song was played in public.
  • Dream All Day/Solar Sister/Apology/Love Letter Boxes/20 Questions/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/I Am the Cosmos/Earlier Than Expected/Flavor of the Month/Any Other Way/Burn and Shine - Frosting On the Beater release party, Tower Records, Seattle 4/27/93 (AAUD, 48 min.) Hometown heroes at the release of their most successful album. Sound is from the original VHS recording.
  • In the Street/Don't Lie To Me/I Am the Cosmos/O My Soul/Ballad of El Goodo/Back of a Car/Way Out West/Daisy Glaze/Thirteen/Baby Strange/For You/Feel/September Gurls - Jon and Ken with Big Star, rehearsals for the Columbia album/show 4/25/93 (AAUD, 43 min.) A few tracks not performed at the show, off-kilter harmonies and barely-audible vocals. But a seriously rare recording of The Posies with Big Star right before their first big night.
  • In the Street/Don't Lie To Me/When My Baby's Beside Me/I Am the Cosmos/Way Out West/Til the End of the Day/Ballad of El Goodo/Back of a Car/Jesus Christ/Daisy Glaze/Thirteen/For You/Baby Strange/Feel/September Gurls/Bg Black Car/Thank You Friends/Slut/Patti Girl/O My Soul - Jon and Ken with Big Star at Cabaret Metro, Chicago 6/8/93 (DAUD, 75 min.) A great performance but not really that great a recording. It is a digital audience recording but has passed through a couple of analog generations before being pristined onto CD as the somewhat-available Pick Some Posies And Let's Play bootleg.
  • Definite Door/The Star-Spangled Banner/Solar Sister/Golden Blunders/Love Letter Boxes/I May Hate You Sometimes/Compliment/Mrs. Green/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Lights Out/Flood of Sunshine/Flavor of the Month/Earlier Than Expected/Dream All Day/Any Other Way/Burn and Shine/How She Lied By Living/Coming Right Along/Suddenly Mary/Feel - Cotton Club, Atlanta 7/10/93 (ASDB, 88 min.) A decent soundboard with lots of enthusiasm in the performance and a great original poem written and recited by Nordic Joe (the Posies' longtime roadie) concerning his love for Krispy Kreme donuts.
  • Solar Sister (2 takes)/Dream All Day/interview - Jon and Ken on "120 Minutes," MTV 7/27/93 (Dclone, 14 min.) A++: Very good quality acoustic performance and slightly-informed interview. Boy, don't we miss the golden days of "120 Minutes?"
  • Earlier Than Expected - Jon and Ken on WXRT Chicago 7/31/93 (AFM, 3 min.)
  • 20 Questions/Solar Sister/Golden Blunders/Love Letter Boxes/What Little Remains/Help Yourself/Flavor of the Month/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Lights Out/Earlier Than Expected/ Compliment/Dream All Day/Any Other Way/Definite Door/Burn and Shine/Flood of Sunshine/ Suddenly Mary/Song of the Baker - The Lighthouse, San Juan de Capistrano 8/14/93 (AAUD, 72 min.) One of the best Posies shows on tape. Includes Nordic Joe’s smashing vocals on the Small Faces tune.
  • Definite Door/Solar Sister/Golden Blunders/Love Letter Boxes/Burn and Shine/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Earlier Than Expected/Dream All Day/Any Other Way - Whisky a Go Go, Los Angeles 8/16/93 (DSDB, 38 min.) One of the best recordings of a Posies show but the performance not as good as the night in San Juan de Capistrano earlier that week. This is from a pre-FM digital board feed, meant for broadcast on Westwood One Network.
  • Definite Door/Solar Sister/Dream All Day/Love Letter Boxes/Apology/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Lights Out/Earlier Than Expected/Flavor of the Month/Any Other Way/Burn and Shine - Loppen Christiana, Copenhagen 10/23/93 (DAUD, 48 min.) A pristine audience tape with another great European performance. On listening to all of the live tapes, The Posies’ European shows have more energy and enthusiasm.
  • Dream All Day/Love Letter Boxes/I Am the Cosmos/When Mute Tongues Can Speak - The Paradiso, Amsterdam 10/30/93 (DFM, 13 min.) The Posies romp through another set just recently uncovered for rebroadcast on European satellite radio.
  • Take the Skinheads Bowling/Norman 3/God Knows It's True/Older Guys/Escher/Pet Rock/The Concept/September Girls - Jon and Ken with Teenage Fanclub at The Paradiso, Amsterdam 10/30/93 (DFM, 27 min.) Both Jon and Ken sing with Teenage Fanclub at this show because Gerard Love was sick. The two bands get together to play "September Gurls" at the end of the broadcast. Unbelievable that this finally turned up.
  • Flavor of the Month/Any Other Way/I am the Cosmos/TFC Jam/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/ EC Jam/Earlier Than Expected/Dreaming/Black Night Jam/Dream All Day/Take Five Jam/Burn and Shine/Coming Right Along - 2 Meter Sessions, Amsterdam 11/1/93 (Adub, 41 min.) Incredible television show with The Posies jamming on cool covers in-between songs. Taken from a master DAT rolling in tandem with the 32-track. From the Mike Musburger collection.
NOTE: This recording of "Dreaming" can be found on the At Least, At Last 4CD boxed set.
  • Any Other Way/Flavor of the Month/Earlier Than Expected/Burn and Shine - Jon and Ken on Radio Paris 11/4/93 (AFM, 13 min.) This recording of “Burn and Shine” is worth this show alone even though the pitch on the recording is high.
NOTE: This recording of "Burn and Shine" can be found on the At Least, At Last 4CD boxed set.
  • Love Letter Boxes/I Am the Cosmos/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Lights Out/Earlier Than Expected/Flavor of the Month/Any Other Way/Burn and Shine/Song of the Baker - Rennes Festival, Paris 11/5/93 (AAUD, 34 minutes) Great show and very polite audience.
  • Dream All Day/Solar Sister - Jon and Ken on BBC Radio One, London 12/4/93 (Dclone, 6 min.) Very crisp recording and a good acoustic (6 & 12-string) performance.
  • Definite Door - "The Word," UK TV 1994 (AFM, 3 min.) Notable for its incorrect introduction as “Distant Door” and it’s abrupt ending in beginning of the third verse after the guitar solo due to time constraints.
  • Dream All Day - Jon and Ken at Studio Brussels 1994 (AFM, 3 min.)
  • Definite Door/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/I Am the Cosmos/Love Letter Boxes/Flavor of the Month/Earlier Than Expected/Solar Sister/Dream All Day/Any Other Way/Burn and Shine/ Coming Right Along/Lights Out/Wiggly World/Song of the Baker/Black Night - "The Black Sessions," Paris 3/1/94 (AFM, 68 min.) This is such a unique performance with all the covers though the radio reception and recording are quite poor on the last three songs. The rest are from a better recording of the transmission.
  • Dream All Day/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Suddenly Mary/Love Letter Boxes/Lights Out/ Earlier Than Expected/Flood of Sunshine/Flavor of the Month/Solar Sister/Any Other Way/ Definite Door/Burn and Shine/Feel/Song of the Baker/Coming Right Along - The Riverside, Newcastle 3/4/94 (ASDB, 73 min.) It's so cool to have been at this as long as I have and still find new shows that excite me. And this is one of them. Clean soundboard with panned guitars and the band sounds like they are into it. The snare drum sounds like shit but that's normal for board recordings. My copy is a digital transfer from the original soundboard cassette.
  • In the Streets/Don't Lie To Me/When My Baby's Beside Me/I Am the Cosmos/Way Out West/Til the End of the Day/Ballad of El Goodo/Back of a Car/Jesus Christ/Daisy Glaze/Thirteen/Baby Strange/For You/Feel/September Gurls/Big Black Car/Thank You Friends/Slut/Patti Girl - Jon and Ken with Big Star at Club Quattro, Osaka 6/2/94 (DAUD, 73 min.) An extremely clean audience recording though the setlist is the usual.
  • Golden Blunders/Dream All Day - "The Beat," UK TV from the Phoenix Festival, Stafford, July 1994 (AFM, 7 min.) The bass is jacked a little high in the mix but the performance is OK.
  • Live To Tell/The Certainty/Run Away Girl/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Song #1/Ask Anybody/You're the Beautiful One/Ring Around the Fountain - Ken solo at Crocodile Cafe, Seattle 8/7/94 (AAUD, 31 min.) Notable for solo versions of Chariot and White Flag tunes and Madonna and Smiths covers.
  • Solar Sister/Flavor of the Month/Please Return It/Everyone Moves Away/This One's Taken/ Open Every Window/My Big Mouth/I May Hate You Sometimes/So Sad About Us - Jon and Ken at Brownies, New York 10/17/94 (AAUD, 35 min.) It's a noisy recording but cool to hear Jon and Ken do it solo with electric guitars and with an interesting setlist for that time in their career together. Looks like what they were doing in 2000!
  • Solar Sister/Dream All Day/Love Letter Boxes/Song #1/Flavor of the Month/Fight It/When Mute Tongues Can Speak - "Centerstage," Western Washington University TV 12/9/94 (AFM, 27 min.) Another full-band acoustic performance, marking the debut of Brian Young on drums.
  • Please Return It/Flavor of the Month/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/World/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/At Least For Now/Limitless Expressions/Apology/Grant Hart/Definite Door - Crocodile Cafe, Seattle 4/15/95 (ASDB, 39 min.) A show during Amazing Disgrace sessions.
  • Definite Door/Solar Sister/Dream All Day/Love Letter Boxes/Flavor of the Month/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Fight It/Grant Hart/Throwaway/Any Other Way/Lights Out/Please Return It/ Burn and Shine/Hate Song/How She Lied By Living - Lee's Palace, Toronto 5/19/95 (AFM, 53 min.) A pre-Amazing Disgrace full-band radio show. Lots of Joe Bass in the left speaker.
  • Under Easy/Going, Going, Gone/Apology/Throwaway/Everyone Moves Away/Flavor of the Month/ At Least For Now/Open Every Window/Golden Blunders/Sick of Myself - Jon solo at Weathered Wall, Seattle 8/17/95 (AAUD, 33 min.) Nice Matthew Sweet cover. Earliest Jon solo show that's available so far.
  • Definite Door/Please Return It/Throwaway/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Dream All Day/ Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Daily Mutilation/Song #1/Hate Song/Grant Hart/Flavor of the Month/Solar Sister/Precious Moments/Lights Out/My Generation - RCKCNDY, Seattle 8/25/95 (DSDB, 62 min.) The Posies airing out new material during the Amazing Disgrace sessions. Plus a seering cover of "My Generation" with Scott McCaughey on guitar.
  • When Mute Tongues Can Speak/The Certainty/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/How She Lied By Living/Believe In Something Other/Song #1/Don't Talk/Just a Thought/Precious Moments/Fall Song/Limitless Expressions - Ken solo at Sit & Spin, Seattle 1/15/96 (AAUD, 44 min.) Low recording level. The only live performance I’ve heard of “Just a Thought,” written as an answer to “Coming Right Along.”
  • Definite Door/Ontario/I May Hate You Sometimes/Please Return It/Throwaway/Hate Song/ Precious Moments/Love Letter Boxes/Coming Right Along/Limitless Expressions/Golden Blunders/ Grant Hart/Flavor of the Month/Solar Sister/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Burn and Shine/Long, Long, Long/Fight It - The Backstage, Seattle 2/24/96 (DAUD, 71 min.) The Beatles cover is truly priceless. This show was to promote the Home Alive compilation. One of the best audience recordings I've ever heard.
  • Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Throwaway/Please Return It/Ontario/Broken Record/World/ Limitless Expressions - 2 Meter Sessions, Amsterdam 4/13/96 (AFM, 24 min.) A very good performance with then-rare examples of "Broken Record" and "Limitless Expressions" live. Not as good as the first sessions in 1993 but still a great performance.
  • Dream All Day/Throwaway/Love Letter Boxes/Golden Blunders/Precious Moments/Coming Right Along/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/World/Grant Hart/Flavor of the Month/Please Return It/ Solar Sister/Burn and Shine/Gino's, Stockholm 4/22/96 (AFM, 56 min.) Ken is sick but manages to make the Posies sound ragged and emotional. And a version of "Grant Hart" that is true punk rawk. This is a new version of this show that restores the last two songs to the recording.
NOTE: This recording of "Grant Hart" can be found on the At Least, At Last 4CD boxed set.
  • Ontario/Fight It/Earlier Than Expected/Broken Record/Any Other Way/Apology/Definite Door/Solar Sister - Logo, Berlin 4/23/96 (DAUD, 30 min.) An incredible audience recording and Ken is in better singing form than the previous night.
  • Precious Moments/Fight It - Jon and Ken on KMTT Seattle 5/13/96 (AFM, 6 min.) Part of a marathon day of Seattle radio promotions.
  • Please Return It/Ontario - Jon and Ken on KNDD Seattle 5/13/96 (AFM, 6 min.) Ken says “shit” on radio. Whoops.
  • Please Return It/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar - Swedish National Television, Stockholm 5/23/96 (AFM, 6 min.) Ken says “Fuck” on TV. What's up with all that swearing on the air! Ragged performance too.
  • Throwaway/Please Return It/Going, Going, Gone/Golden Blunders/Solar Sister/Like Me Too/ Flavor of the Month/Ontario/Everyone Moves Away - Jon and Ken on 99X Atlanta 5/25/96 (AFM, 35 min.) With studio audience, Jon and Ken sound tired but a great performance anyhow.
  • Dream All Day/Ontario/Suddenly Mary/Love Letter Boxes/Hate Song/Broken Record/Please Return It/You Avoid Parties/Coming Right Along/Any Other Way/Throwaway/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Grant Hart/Flavor of the Month/Solar Sister/Burn and Shine - Trees, Dallas 6/1/96 (DAUD, 71 min.) Just when you think you've got everything...this bootleg shows up. Great recording quality and a fierce performance of the Amazing Disgrace era band.
  • Dream All Day/Ontario/Throwaway/Love Letter Boxes/I May Hate You Sometimes/Precious Moments/Coming Right Along/Please Return It/Daily Mutilation/Flood of Sunshine/Any Other Way/World/Grant Hart/Flavor of the Month/Solar Sister/Definite Door/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Surrender - The Showbox, Seattle 6/15/96 (AAUD, 82 min.) Sound quality not that great but a very tight and inspired performance.
  • Dream All Day/Please Return It/Throwaway/Love Letter Boxes/Suddenly Mary/Precious Moments/Coming Right Along/Any Other Way/Daily Mutilation/Song #1/Grant Hart/Flavor of the Month/Solar Sister/Burn and Shine - 9:30 Club, Washington DC 6/29/96 (ASDB, 69 min.) Not a great soundboard recording but a pretty good performance nonetheless. Came to me with a pitch problem but I fixed that in the transfer.
  • Daily Mutilation/Ontario/Dream All Day/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Flavor of the Month/ Grant Hart/Solar Sister/Definite Door/Surrender - Reading Festival, Berkeshire, August 1996 (AFM, 30 min.) A knock-out performance, tight and concise.
  • Sorry Somehow/Diane/Back From Somewhere/Keep Hanging On - Grant Hart with The Posies as backing band at Cedarfest, Minneapolis 8/18/96 (DSDB, 14 min.) A pretty rare and proud moment for a band with a song named after Grant Hart. There's some walkie-talkie interference at the very beginning.
  • Grant Hart/Any Other Way/I May Hate You Sometimes/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Dream All Day/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Fight It/Solar Sister/I Am the Cosmos/Ooh Child - Jon and Ken at 78 Records, Sidney 1996 (DSDB, 32 min.) Very rare performance of “Ooh Child.” The recording clips in places.
  • Wonderwall/Blow Out/Ontario/Throwaway - Jon and Ken on Canadian radio with Thom Yorke 1996 (AFM, 9 min.) Goofy Oasis parodies, Jon on drums backing Thom Yorke and a good acoustic performance.
  • Fall Apart With Me/Bad Deeds/Prequel/Blue Moon/Me Is Dead/Sick and Starving/You Said/ Reveal Love/Empty - Ken solo at Moe, Seattle 1/16/97 (AAUD, 37 min.) New songs and Ken as Kickstand with Bootsy Holler perform live Twin Princess on the last track.
  • I Owe You/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Ontario/Grant Hart/Sick and Starving/Prequel/Blue Moon/Reveal Love - Ken solo at the Viper Room, Los Angeles 2/5/97 (ASDB, 29 min.) Rare Viper Room bootleg of future Saltine songs and Posies greats.
  • Dream All Day/Ontario/Fight It/Please Return It/World/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Flavor of the Month/Love Letter Boxes/Precious Moments/Broken Record/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/ Daily Mutilation/Grant Hart/Solar Sister/Definite Door/Burn and Shine - Podu-Jum Rock Festival, Beselare 4/5/97 (DSDB, 59 min.) Good sound quality but out-of-tune guitars. Where’s Nordic Joe when you need him?
NOTE: This recording of "Ontario" can be found on the At Least, At Last 4CD boxed set.
  • Somehow Everything/Farewell Typewriter - Jon and Ken on KNDD Seattle 2/4/98 (AFM, 6 min.) Jon and Ken with the "Real World: Seattle" cast asking inane questions. It coulda been them in the hot tub on Pier 70 instead of Super Deluxe…
  • Somehow Everything/Please Return It/Paint Me/Friendship of the Future/Grow/Any Other Way/Looking Lost/Song #1/Apology/Who To Blame/Flavor of the Month/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Start a Life/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Mrs. Green/Like Me Too/Golden Blunders/Flood of Sunshine/Definite Door/Fall Song/Solar Sister/Burn and Shine - Crocodile Cafe, Seattle 2/13/98 (DSDB, 109 min.) Muzz on drums and a reunion with Rick and Dave. One of the many Posies “final shows” they played that year with a great set list. Vocals really high in relation to the other instruments in the mix.
NOTE: This recording of "Flavor of the Month" can be found on the At Least, At Last 4CD boxed set.
  • Ontario/Flavor of the Month/Please Return It/Throwaway/You're the Beautiful One/Somehow Everything/Love Letter Boxes/20 Questions/Precious Moments/Friendship of the Future/ Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Dream All Day/Solar Sister/Burn and Shine/Fall Apart With Me/ Hate Song/Grant Hart/Coming Right Along - Milky Way, Amsterdam 3/6/98 (ASDB, 73 min.) Good performance but a real hot recording level. I think it adds to the overall energy of the performance.
  • Hip Hop Sunny Day/Neptune's Son/Cream Soda/Sorry For the Win/Heart Attack/Elvis/Tuff Love/The Wave - Jon with Lucky Me at The Breakroom, Seattle 3/21/98 (DAUD, 38 min.) Ratings forthcoming.
  • Cream Soda/Neptune's Son/Spoon/Tuff Love/Hip Hop Sunny Day/Custer County/Heart Attack/ The Wave - Lucky Me at RKCNDY, Seattle 3/28/98 (DAUD, 38 min.) Ratings forthcoming.
  • You Avoid Parties/Somehow Everything/Grant Hart/What Little Remains/Blind Eyes Open/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/I May Hate You Sometimes/Friendship of the Future - Jon and Ken at Music Millenium, Portland 4/17/98 (DAUD, 31 min.) Though winding down their time together, the boys always seemed to enjoy playing as a duo and this performance proves it.
  • Daily Mutilation/Ontario/Somehow Everything/Please Return It/Dream All Day/You're the Beautiful One/Throwaway/Farewell Typewriter/Broken Record/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Start a Life/Precious Moments/Grant Hart/Flavor of the Month/Solar Sister/Burn and Shine - Marktrock Festival, Leuven, May 1998 (DSDB, 58 min.) This European tour is the exception to The Posies’ otherwise hot European performances.
  • Friendship of the Future/Start a Life - DeBeurs Radio, Amsterdam, June 1998 CD (AFM, 8 min.) A-: Very neat acoustic non-drum machine version of “Start a Life”.
  • Broken Record - Pukkelpop Festival, Hasselt, June 1998 (DFM, 3 min.) A good quality recording and a weary performance but there's a certain spark to that weariness that makes this recording charming.
  • Friendship of the Future/Lights Out/Terrorized/Every Bitter Drop/Earlier Than Expected - De Effenaar, Eindhoven 6/4/98 (DSDB, 18 min.) Good clean board sound and a solid performance.
  • Earlier Than Expected/Placebo/Like Me Too/Throwaway/Who To Blame/Apology/Please Return It/Start a Life/Song #1/Lights Out/Friendship of the Future/Dream All Day/Grant Hart/Flavor of the Month/Solar Sister/Burn and Shine - Cafe Rust, Copenhagen 8/11/98 (DAUD, 74 min.) Good recording, poor performance.
  • Daily Mutilation/Ontario/Somehow Everything/Please Return It/Dream All Day/You're the Beautiful One/World/Fall Apart With Me/Throwaway/Love Letter Boxes/Start a Life/Terrorized/ Golden Blunders/Friendship of the Future/Precious Moments/Hate Song/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Flavor of the Month/Solar Sister/Burn and Shine - Bumbershoot, Seattle 9/1/98 (DAUD, 92 min.) The last Seattle performance of Posies 2.0. The recordist is a little far back from the stacks at first but seems to be getting closer as the show commences. The performance is pretty good (I actually drove up from Oregon for this show).
  • Apology/Love Letter Boxes/Throwaway/Please Return It/Somehow Everything/Any Other Way/ World/You're the Beautiful One/Suddenly Mary/Terrorized/Dream All Day/Precious Moments/ Hate Song/Flavor of the Month/Solar Sister/Grant Hart/Surrender/Daily Mutilation/Ontario/ Flood of Sunshine - Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco 9/19/98 (DSDB, 98 min.) The true final performance of Posies 2.0. And best sound quality of any Posies boot I’ve ever heard. NOTE: This recording of "Solar Sister" can be found on the At Least, At Last 4CD boxed set. Also, I recorded the master with a Panasonic professional portable DAT recorder fed with a special submix provided by the soundboard through a Mackie VLZ Pro 1202 mixer. This show was also professionally recorded by a two-man Betacam team and I have an edit of the show but with inferior audio. Someday the two source plus another audience video recording I know of will be mixed together onto one DVD.
  • Your Love Won't Be Denied/Who To Blame/Too True/Please Return It/Reveal Love/Here's To the Future/What a Feeling - Ken solo at OK Hotel, Seattle 9/24/98 (DAUD, 46 min.) An early instance of Ken playing solo completely on electric piano. Very cool to hear his songs translated in this idiom and a precursor to his current solo performances.
  • Find Yourself Alone/Your Love Won't Be Denied/Any Sign At All/Reveal Love/Too True/ Here's To the Future/One Morning/You're the Beautiful One - Ken solo at Sub Pop Super Shop, Seattle 1/30/99 (DAUD, 42 min.) Great crisp recording of an emotionally charged Ken performance. He says early on how sad he is. Later, he interrupts "...Beautiful One" to say he can't play it anymore. After he continues, he runs out of the store. Very hard to listen to in this context but a peerless performance nonetheless.
  • Throwaway/Flavor of the Month/Golden Blunders/Apology/Daily Mutilation/Dream All Day/ Hate Song/I Am the Cosmos/Burn and Shine - Jon solo at Rough Trade Records, London 2/19/99 (DAUD, 39 min.) A+: Jon plays requests with a lot of crowd noise and lots of fun.
  • Too True/Reveal Love/One Morning/Find Yourself Alone/Your Love Won't Be Denied/Any Sign At All/Bad Deeds/Don't Break the Silence - Ken with Saltine at 4th Avenue Tavern, Olympia 4/15/99 (DAUD, 38 min.) The first Saltine show I saw. Spectacular when they step into "Too True."

His first show with the new band, featuring current Posies drummer Darius Minwalla with Seattle scene stalwarts John Kirsch and Gavin Guss.
NOTE: I recorded the master with a mono Shure SM-58 into a Sony MZ-R30 minidisc recorder.
  • 23 Below/Pretty Picture/Ready To Be Well/Tuesday/Ballad of a Tolerant Destination/ Nowhere By Myself/The Perfect Size/You Used To Drive Me Around/All U People - Jon and band at Crocodile Cafe, Seattle 7/10/99 (DAUD, 32 minutes) The infamous "Visor Show."
NOTE: I recorded the master with a mono Shure SM-58 into a Sony MZ-R30 minidisc recorder.
  • 23 Below/Pretty Picture/Ready to Be Well/Tuesday/Ballad of a Tolerant Destination/ Nowhere By Myself/The Perfect Size/You Used To Drive Me Around/All U People/Love My Way - Jon and band at Satyricon, Portland 8/20/99 (DAUD, 34 min.) Though Jon sez they were weary, it does a band good not to play for the same people all the time.
  • The Perfect Size/Tuesday/Pretty Picture/You Used To Drive Me Around/Nowhere By Myself/23 Below/Ready To Be Well/Ballad of a Tolerant Destination/Love My Way/All U People - Jon and band at OK Hotel, Seattle 8/21/99 (DSDB, 39 min.) Excellent recording and performance with great Psychedelic Furs cover.
NOTE: I recorded the master with a Sony MZ-R30 minidisc recorder fed with mono audio from the soundboard.
  • Sundial/Today/Such a Small Room/If You Can/Lightswitch - Joe Bass with Skyward at Joe Norcio Benefit, ARO.space, Seattle 9/22/99 (DSDB/AUD, 16 min.) Great performance but with some line distortion. And a string section!
NOTE: I recorded the master with the live soundboard feed mixed with two Sennheiser 421 mics in stereo at the back of the room to a Mackie VLZ Pro 1202 mixer into a Sony MZ-R30 minidisc recorder.
  • Hope/One Morning/Reveal Love/Find Yourself Alone/Here's To the Future - Ken solo at Joe Norcio Benefit, ARO.space, Seattle 9/22/99 (DSDB/AUD, 19 min.) Perfect recording and another new bum-out tune.
NOTE: I recorded the master with the live soundboard feed mixed with two Sennheiser 421 mics in stereo at the back of the room to a Mackie VLZ Pro 1202 mixer into a Sony MZ-R30 minidisc recorder.
  • The Perfect Size/Tuesday/23 Below/You Used To Drive Me Around/Ready To Be Well/Tolerant Destination/Nowhere By Myself/Makes No Sense At All/All U People - Jon and band at Joe Norcio Benefit, ARO.space, Seattle 9/22/99 (DSDB/AUD, 36 min.) Joe Norcio guests on drums for "Nowhere By Myself", Ken guests on theremin for "All U People", and Jon tries on a Husker Du song. Great performance.
NOTE: I recorded the master with the live soundboard feed mixed with two Sennheiser 421 mics in stereo at the back of the room to a Mackie VLZ Pro 1202 mixer into a Sony MZ-R30 minidisc recorder.
  • Throwaway/Please Return It/Apology/Precious Moments/Daily Mutilation/Any Other Way/ Flavor of the Month/You're the Beautiful One/Solar Sister/Burn and Shine/Song of the Baker - Joe Norcio Benefit, ARO.space, Seattle 9/22/99 (DSDB/AUD, 52 min.) Muzz sits on drums, Nordic Joe sings the Small Faces cover and the Posies come out of semi-retirement. Noticeable distortion from impedence differences, but otherwise a fine show.
NOTE: I recorded the master with the live soundboard feed mixed with two Sennheiser 421 mics in stereo at the back of the room to a Mackie VLZ Pro 1202 mixer into a Sony MZ-R30 minidisc recorder.
  • Love My Way/Heavy Metal Medley/A Night Like This - Jon and band at The Cure Cover Night, Sit & Spin, Seattle 9/23/99 (DAUD, 10 min.) The cover of "A Night Like This" is exlusive to this show, and no one does metal with tongue planted firmly in cheek like Jon.
  • Your Love Won't Be Denied/You're the Beautiful One/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Reveal Love/Find Yourself Alone/Precious Moments/Grant Hart/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Bad Deeds/ Runaway Girl/Please Return It/Give Me One More Chance/You Avoid Parties/There's a Kind of Hush All Over the World/Solar Sister/Too True/One Morning/Any Other Way/Compliment/God Only Knows/Live To Tell/Song #1/Love Letter Boxes/I Love You/Here's To the Future/Take Care/Hope - Ken solo at Gordon Biersch, Seattle 10/25/99 (DAUD, 117 min.) Weird monologues, interesting covers and finding true emotion in Madonna's songwriting: Mr. Stringfellow brings the goods solo.
  • 23 Below/Nowhere By Myself/The Perfect Size/Tuesday/All U People/This Year's Girl/ Jailbreak/I Want You Back/Love Me Too/Makes No Sense At All/Love My Way - Jon and band at The Breakroom, Seattle 1/7/00 (DAUD, 42 min.) Good sound (except for audible conversation now and again) with the last half of the set some choice covers. And now with Joe Bass in the band.
NOTE: I recorded the master with a mono Shure SM-58 into a Sony MZ-R30 minidisc recorder.
  • 23 Below/Nowhere By Myself/The Perfect Size/Pretty Picture/You Used To Drive Me Around/ Ready To Be Well/Tuesday/All U People/This Year's Girl/Jailbreak/Makes No Sense At All/I Want You Back/Summer of '69/Love My Way - Jon and band at the Showbox, Seattle 1/14/00 (DAUD, 55 min.) Longer set but a weird room. Lots of covers again.
NOTE: I recorded the master with a mono Shure SM-58 into a Sony MZ-R30 minidisc recorder.
  • Sparrow/Unnamed Blake Song 1/Find Yourself Alone/Any Sign At All/Spanish Waltz/Bad Deeds/One Morning/Your Love Won't Be Denied/Here's To the Future/Unnamed Blake song 2/Reveal Love/Down Like Me/Don't Break the Silence - Ken with Saltine on "The Live Room," KCMU Seattle 1/15/00 (DFM, 62 min.) A+: The best Saltine show that exists. Plus two songs that were never released. On the station that is now known as KEXP. If anyone knows the names of those two Blake songs I'd love for you to tell me what they are called.
  • Going Going Gone/Open Every Window/Sad To Be Aware/At Least For Now/Every Bitter Drop/ Tuesday/Hate Song/Dream All Day/Ask/Love My Way/Throwaway/The Perfect Size/23 Below/Apology/ Ready To Be Well/I May Hate You Sometimes/This Year's Girl/Is She Really Going Out With Him/ Everyone Moves Away/Suddenly Mary/Flavor of the Month/Not That I Know/Fight It/Golden Blunders/Jailbreak - Jon solo at Gordon Biersch, Seattle 2/3/00 (DAUD, 91 min.) Crowd noise a bit high but a cool performance.
NOTE: I recorded the master with a mono Shure SM-58 into a Sony MZ-R30 minidisc recorder.
  • Throwaway/I May Hate You Sometimes/Going Going Gone/Ready To Be Well/Burn and Shine/ Hate Song/At Least For Now/Apology/Golden Blunders/Nowhere By Myself/Sad To Be Aware/ Everyone Moves Away/Dream All Day/Every Bitter Drop/World/I Want You Back/Somehow Everything/Flavor of the Month/Tuesday/Daily Mutilation/Under Easy/23 Below/Open Every Window/Suddenly Mary/This Year's Girl/Love My Way/Is She Really Going Out With Him - Jon solo at Gordon Biersch, Seattle 2/10/00 (DAUD, 109 min.) The sound muffles from time to time but when it clears, the show sounds great. And Jon is more animate than the previous week.
  • Any Other Way/Sad To Be Aware/You Avoid Parties/Flavor of the Month/Love Letter Boxes/I May Hate You Sometimes/Please Return It/Suddenly Mary/You're the Beautiful One/Every Bitter Drop/Believe In Something Other/Everyone Moves Away/Precious Moments/Somehow Everything/ Solar Sister/Throwaway/Hate Song/Grant Hart/This One's Taken - Jon and Ken at The Showbox, Seattle 2/24/00 (DAUD, 80 min.) The boys are at ease with each other and play a wide variety of "the hits," recorded professionally and released in 2000 as In Case You Didn't Feel Live Plugging In on Casa Records. Only half of this show has been released and not in the original set order as performed.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional binaurals into a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder.
  • Found/Pretty Picture/Ready To Be Well/Josephine/The Perfect Size/Tuesday/23 Below/You Used To Drive Me Around/All U People/Little Guitars - Jon and band at The Showbox, Seattle 3/22/00 (DAUD, 39 min.) Mike Squires (Alien Crime Syndicate, Nevada Bachelors) replaces John Kirsch on this show. Features two new originals and a Van Halen cover. Noticeable static from hot recording.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional binaurals into a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder.
  • Your Love Won't Be Denied/Down Like Me/Reveal Love/One Morning/Find Yourself Alone/ Here's To the Future/Bad Deeds/Spanish Waltz/Sparrow/Don't Break the Silence - Ken with Saltine at Crocodile Cafe, Seattle 4/14/00 (DAUD, 45 min.) Very clear recording with Chris Walla from Death Cab For Cutie sitting in on second guitar. The last Saltine show.
  • Uniforms/Find Yourself Alone/The Lover's Hymn/This One's For You/Reveal Love/Baby Plays Around/Down Like Me/Here's To the Future/Your Love Won't Be Denied/One Morning - Ken solo at The Baltic Room, Seattle 6/27/00 (DAUD, 49 min.) A unique performance only slightly marred by the terribly loud Baltic Room hipper-than-thou audience. Ken takes the first half of the set on piano, transposing more raucous Saltine tunes into an only-previously hinted-at introspection and debuting lighter material from Touched a year before its release.
  • Hate Song/Somehow Everything/World/Dream All Day/Josephine/Suddenly Mary/Burn and Shine/ Tuesday/Flavor of the Month/Every Bitter Drop/23 Below/I May Hate You Sometimes/The Perfect Size/Throwaway/Is She Really Going Out With Him/I Am The Cosmos/Sad To Be Aware/Jailbreak - Jon solo at Nighttown, Rotterdam 6/30/00 (DAUD, 75 min.) Jon really had his shite together that night and played lots of Posies and Jon gems.
  • Dream All Day/You're the Beautiful One/Golden Blunders/Please Return It/Burn and Shine/ The Certainty/Under Easy/Fall Song/20 Questions/Fall Apart With Me/Suddenly Mary/My Big Mouth/Throwaway/Believe In Something Other/Ontario/Paint Me/Hate Song/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar - Jon and Ken at The Old Firehouse, Redmond 7/28/00 (DAUD, 80 min.) The opening night on the reformed-Posies' acoustic tour. The tunes aren't completely tight but a spirited performance with a great setlist and an attentive audience.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional binaurals into a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder.
  • You're the Beautiful One/Everyone Moves Away/How She Lied By Living/Hate Song/Song #1/ What Little Remains/Help Yourself/Lights Out/Precious Moments/Somehow Everything/Farewell Typewriter/Flavor of the Month/Ontario/Every Bitter Drop/Compliment/King Midas In Reverse/ Ironing Tuesdays/Apology/At Least For Now/Solar Sister/Ooh Child - Jon and Ken at The Showbox, Seattle 8/1/00 (DAUD, 111 min.) The performance isn't as great as others I've heard, but Jon and Ken were their old humorous selves at this show, picking on future Posies drummer Darius and spouting every arcane '70s AM radio hit they could sing.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional binaurals into a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder.
  • Earlier Than Expected/Daily Mutilation/Fall Song/I Am the Cosmos/Any Other Way/Apology/ You Avoid Parties/Going Going Gone/Precious Moments/Will You Ever Ease Your Mind?/The Certainty/Start a Life/Ironing Tuesdays/Throwaway/Definite Door/Dream All Day/Believe In Something Other/Flood of Sunshine - Jon and Ken at The Showoff Gallery, Bellingham 8/2/00 (DAUD, 89 min.) Though a tiny room and crumby PA, the show is the usual Posie acoustic magic with Ken upstaged by a two-year-old. And a continuation of few repeats from the previous night.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional binaurals into a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder.
  • Love Letter Boxes/Coming Right Along/Precious Moments/Will You Ever Ease Your Mind/Like Me Too/I May Hate You Sometimes/Help Yourself/Dream All Day/Farewell Typewriter/Paint Me/The Certainty/Start a Life/Ironing Tuesdays/Apology/Saying Sorry To Myself/Song #1/At Least For Now/Fall Song/Mrs. Green/Who To Blame/I Am the Cosmos - Jon and Ken at 4th Avenue Tavern, Olympia 8/4/00 (DAUD, 101 min.) Some audible conversation during songs and the sound is a little distant but a good recording of a slightly-hungover performance, as Jon and Ken were still recovering from Monday...the Showbox drunkfest.
  • Paint Me/Flood of Sunshine/Coming Right Along/Precious Moments/Sad To Be Aware/ Friendship of the Future/Mrs. Green/How She Lied By Living/Throwaway/You're the Beautiful One/I Am the Cosmos/Compliment/Everyone Moves Away/Please Return It/covers medley/Somehow Everything/Fall Song/Uncombined/Suddenly Mary - Jon and Ken at Berbati's Pan, Portland 8/5/00 (DAUD, 120 min.) Another loose Northwest performance with some slight distortion early in the recording. A similar set list to earlier shows with a few additions.
  • Throwaway/Any Other Way/Ooh Child - Jon and Ken at Music Millenium, Portland 8/7/00 (DAUD, 14 min.) A polite and short performance.
  • Coming Right Along/Ironing Tuesdays/Placebo/Friendship of the Future/I May Hate You Sometimes/Love Letter Boxes/Open Every Window/Precious Moments/Throwaway/Fall Song/Burn and Shine/Who To Blame/I Am the Cosmos/Spite and Malice/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Every Bitter Drop/Limitless Expressions/Golden Blunders - Maxwells, Hoboken, 8/21/00 (DAUD, 93 min.) Review forthcoming.
  • Dream All Day/Uncombined/Mrs. Green/Ironing Tuesdays/Will You Ever Ease Your Mind/ Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/20 Questions/Blind Eyes Open/Suddenly Mary/Grant Hart/Apology/ You're the Beautiful One/Coming Right Along/I'm In Love With a Girl/You Avoid Parties/ Throwaway/Solar Sister/I Am the Cosmos/What's Going Ahn/Everyone Moves Away/Flood of Sunshine/You're a Soldier/Makes No Sense At All/These Important Years/King Midas In Reverse - Knitting Factory, New York 8/23/00 (DAUD, 140 min.) Review forthcoming.
  • Lady Friend/You Avoid Parties/My Big Mouth/Saying Sorry To Myself/Going Going Gone/Dream All Day/Suddenly Mary - Jon and Ken on "Common Threads," New Jersey radio 8/24/00 (Dclone, 22 min.) The recording is SO crisp that you can really hear the warts in the harmonies. Very, very good. This is a pre-FM digital feed.
  • Everyone Moves Away/Any Other Way/What Little Remains/Fall Song/Suddenly Mary/You Avoid Parties/Throwaway/Limitless Expressions/Mrs. Green/Song #1/Coming Right Along/The Certainty/ Love Letter Boxes/This One’s Taken - Jon and Ken at TLA, Philadelphia 8/24/00 (DAUD, 68 min.): Review forthcoming.
  • Song #1/Apology/You're the Beautiful One/Paint Me/Uncombined/Burn and Shine/Fall Apart With Me/Everyone Moves Away/Previous Moments/Throwaway/How She Lied By Living/Definite Door/ You Avoid Parties/I Am the Cosmos/Medley Mania/Solar Sister/The Star-Spangled Banner - Jon and Ken at Black Cat, Washington DC 8/25/00 (DAUD, 120 min.) Good setlist, crisp recording, good performance with lots of half-assed covers and strange stories. More of what you've come to expect from the roving Posies 2.5 acoustic tour.
  • You Avoid Parties/Throwaway/Grant Hart/Flavor of the Month/Solar Sister/Coming Right Along/The Kid Is Hot Tonight/Limitless Expressions/Everyone Moves Away/Any Other Way/Mrs. Green/The Certainty/Somehow Everything/Tangerine/I Am the Cosmos/Golden Blunders/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Blind Eyes Open/Terrorized/Dream All Day/Love Letter Boxes/Burn and Shine/ The Star-Spangled Banner - Jon and Ken at 40 Watt Club, Athens 8/26/00 (DSDB, 116 min.) Recorded from an internet-only broadcast so some dropouts exist but this is as close to a soundboard we have get from this tour.
  • Flavor of the Month/Ontario/I May Hate You Sometimes/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Coming Right Along/Love Letter boxes/Placebo/Please Return It/Mrs. Green/Precious Moments/Dream All Day/Limitless Expressions/Burn and Shine/Fall Apart With Me/Lady Friend/Broken Record/ Spite and Malice/Throwaway/I Am the Cosmos/Solar Sister/Golden Blunders/Ooh Child/The Star-Spangled Banner - Jon and Ken at 12th and Porter, Nashville 8/27/00 (DAUD, 122 min.) This is a fine performance but there's some brickwalling from pushing the minidisc recording levels too high.
  • Don't Lie To Me/When My Baby's Beside Me/I Am the Cosmos/Way Out West/Til the End of the Day/Ballad of El Goodo/Back of a Car/Jesus Christ/Daisy Glaze/Thirteen/Baby Strange/For You/ Feel/September Gurls/Big Black Car/Thank You Friends/Slut/Patti Girl/Hot Thing/Duke of Earl - Jon and Ken with Big Star at Key Arena, Seattle 9/2/00 (DAUD, 70 min.) A great performance only slightly marred by the big arena sound.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional binaurals into a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder.
  • You Avoid Parties/Golden Blunders/Earlier Than Expected/Coming Right Along/Who To Blame/ Open Every Window/Ontario/Apology/This One's Taken/I May Hate You Sometimes/You're the Beautiful One/Throwaway/Solar Sister/So Sad About Us - Jon and Ken at PCC Northwest Artists Stage, Seattle 9/3/00 (DAUD, 68 min.) Great sound, good banter and a diverse set list during Bumbershoot. The audience was very much into this show and so were the Posies.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional binaurals into a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder.
  • Precious Moments/Apology/How She Lied By Living/Will You Ever Ease Your Mind/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Dream All Day/Who To Blame/At Least For Now/You're the Beautiful One/ Somehow Everything/Sitting Still/Superman/Rockville/Lady Friend - Jon and Ken at Crocodile Cafe, Seattle 9/22/00 (DAUD, 75 min.) The boys take their time between songs for plenty of audience chatter, begging for free drinks and lauding their then-manager Barbara Mitchell (whose birthday it was.) More notable, however, for the shock of REM covers. Good clean recording.
  • Limitless Expressions/Suddenly Mary/Flood of Sunshine/Fight It/Earlier Than Expected/ Flavor of the Month/Uncombined/Coming Right Along/Fall Song/At Least For Now/Terrorized/ Throwaway/Ironing Tuesdays/Mrs. Green/Grant Hart/Ask/Somehow Everything/Any Other Way/Solar Sister - Jon and Ken at Starfish Lounge, Vancouver 9/25/00 (DAUD, 136 min.) Jon and Ken get their drunkest of the tour so far, treating the audience to much fooling around with covers and some of Ken's best stories yet. Steven Stills, pot buying excursions, Beatles covers and mas tequila are all covered. Thanks to my friend Rob for taking my bootleg machine to this show.
NOTE: My pal Rob recorded this show with my stereo Sound Professional binaurals into a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder.
  • Fall Apart With Me - Jon and Ken at Crossing Border Festival 11/3/00 (DFM, 4 min.) A very clean recording and performance.
  • You're the Beautiful One/Going Going Gone/Like Me Too/Somehow Everything/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Mrs. Green/Ontario/Throwaway/Any Other Way/I May Hate You Sometimes/Solar Sister/Thirteen/Life Is Right/I'm In Love With a Girl/September Gurls/You Avoid Parties/ Man On the Moon/I Am Superman/Rockville/Coming Right Along/Tequila/Dream All Day/College Rock Medley/I Am the Cosmos/Love Letter Boxes/Flavor of the Month/Burn and Shine/Grant Hart/ Lights Out/Lady Friend - Jon and Ken at AB Club, Brussels 11/5/00 (AAUD, 165 min.) Good quality audio transfer from video recording. The Posies do the usual fooling around between songs but are obviously having fun with the audience. With lots of Big Star tunes too.
  • Jon and Ken at Voxhall, Aarhus, Denmark 11/8/00 (DAUD, 120 min.) Setlist and review forthcoming.
  • Precious Moments/Throwaway/Uncombined/Open Every Window/Grant Hart/Fight It/Any Other Way/Coming Right Along/Fall Apart With Me/Dream All Day/You're the Beautiful One/Flavor of the Month/This One's Taken/Burn and Shine/Hate Song/Love Letter Boxes/Thirteen/Solar Sister - Jon and Ken at Tavistia Club, Helsinki 11/13/00 (DAUD, 160 min.) A clean recording with plenty of goofing around from the boys, changing the lyrics of The Who's "Boris the Spider" to "Barbara The Mitchell" plus lots of cerebral jokes.
  • I May Hate You Sometimes/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Hate Song/Compliment/Throwaway/ Ontario/Flavor of the Month/Blind Eyes Open/Lights Out/Lady Friend/Golden Blunders/The Certainty/Burn and Shine - Jon and Ken at Cafe Rust, Copenhagen 11/16/00 (DAUD, 70 min.) Review forthcoming.
  • Flavor of the Month/Fall Apart With Me/Throwaway/Solar Sister/Tequila/The Girl From Ipanema/I May Hate You Sometimes/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Coming Right Along/Any Other Way/Somehow Everything/I Want It That Way/You're the Beautiful One/Burn and Shine/Grant Hart/Dream All Day/Please Return It/Thirteen/Love Letter Boxes/I Am the Cosmos/Life Is Right/September Gurls/You Avoid Parties/Love My Way/Man On the Moon/The Star-Spangled Banner/London, London - Jon and Ken at the Garage, London 11/29/00 (DAUD, 110 min.) A great audience recording, though the audience is a little rambunctious at times. The drunkeness continues (hence the new alcohol-oriented lyrics to Girl From Ipanema) but the Big Star covers are priceless as are the national anthem and "London, London" sung to the melody of "New York, New York."
  • Somehow Everything/Uncombined/Tequila/Sad to Be Aware/Lady Friend/Dream All Day/Any Other Way/Coming Right Along/Solar Sister/Start a Life/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Here's To the Future/Throwaway/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/King Midas In Reverse/Rain/Limitless Expressions/Going Going Gone/Burn and Shine/Terrorized/Flavor of the Month/Kiss/Thirteen/ You're the Beautiful One - Jon and Ken at Muziek-O-Droom, Hasselt 11/30/00 (AAUD, 136 min.) Some noticeable videotape noise caught in the transfer but the show is good with some true Posies rarities.
  • Grant Hart/Somehow Everything/Any Other Way/Dream All Day/Song #1/Coming Right Along/ Like Me Too/Apology/Solar Sister/Flavor of the Month/You're the Beautiful One/Thirteen/ Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/IWant It That Way/World/You Avoid Parties/Burn and Shine/ Ontario/Superman/Daily Mutilation - Jon and Ken at Nighttown, Rotterdam 12/2/00 (AAUD, 95 min.) The guys are really tired after a night of hard drinkin' the night before. And the recording has lots of hiss and sometimes the speed varies. For collectors only.
  • Dream All Day/You're the Beautiful One/20 Questions/Terrorized/Throwaway/Any Other Way/ Flavor of the Month/Solar Sister - Jon and Ken at HMV Records, Nagoya 12/5/00 (DAUD, 44 min.) Recording quality is clear and Jon and Ken weren't fooling around too much, though both were sick during the Japanese tour.
  • Throwaway/Terrorized/Broken Record/Blind Eyes Open/Mrs. Green/How She Lied By Living/ Every Bitter Drop/Lady Friend/I May Hate You Sometimes/My Big Mouth/Dream All Day/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Thirteen/Solar Sister/Burn and Shine/Precious Moments/Coming Right Along/ Apology/Limitless Expressions/Sad To Be Aware/Believe In Something Other/Going Going Gone/ You're the Beautiful One/Golden Blunders/Song #1 - Jon and Ken at Astro Hall, Tokyo 12/6/00 (DAUD, 129 min.) The performance is very good, featuring some fairly rare songs. Ken is sick and fairly downbeat. The recording was recorded a little hot on the master minidisc so there is a little distortion and a lot of compression.
  • The Certainty/At Least For Now/You're the Beautiful One/Open Every Window/You Avoid Parties/World/Grant Hart/Dream All Day/Love Letter Boxes/Suddenly Mary/Please Return It/ Flavor of the Month/This One's Taken/English Rose/Somehow Everything/Solar Sister/Lights Out/Spite and Malice/Will You Ever Ease Your Mind/Earlier Than Expected/Hate Song/Help Yourself/Coming Right Along/Compliment/So Sad About Us/Ooh Child/The Star-Spangled Banner/ Tokyo, Tokyo - Jon and Ken at Astro Hall, Tokyo 12/7/00 (DAUD, 143 min.) An unparalleled setlist hand-picked by Dear 23 email list member Maki but you can hear the recordist fumbling with the mics occasionally. Still, small price to pay for a good no-frills acoustic show.
  • Fall Apart With Me/Flavor of the Month/Christmas/Dream All Day/King Midas In Reverse - Jon and Ken at Tower Records, Tokyo 12/8/00 (DAUD, 26 min.) Definitely worth having for the ultra-rare live performance of "Christmas."
  • Matinee/At Least For Now/Ontario/Throwaway/The Certainty/No Consolation/Please Return It/Suddenly Mary/Solar Sister/Saying Sorry To Myself - Jon and Ken at The Showbox, Seattle 12/22/00 (DAUD, 44 min.) The boys were on focus for this show, debuting new material from their then-forthcoming EP. Ken played some keyboards and spent some time riffing on Joe Bass and the band Venom. Lots of crowd noise.
  • In the Street/Don't Lie To Me/When My Baby's Beside Me/I Am the Cosmos/Way Out West/Til the End of the Day/Ballad of El Goodo/Back of a Car/Jesus Christ/Daisy Glaze/Thirteen/Baby Strange/For You/Feel/September Gurls/Big Black Car/Walk Right Back/Thank You Friends/Slut/ Patti Girl/Hot Thing/634-5789/Duke of Earl - Jon and Ken with Big Star at The Showbox, Seattle 12/22/00 (DAUD, 80 min.) A spot-on performance from Big Star with a perfect sound mix. Plus a bit of Everly Brothers and Wilson Pickett too.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional binaurals into a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder.
  • 23 Below/Fall Song/Suddenly Mary/Earlier Than Expected/Chainsmoking In the USA/Who To Blame/ Everyone Moves Away/Love Letter Boxes/Sad To Be Aware/Lady Friend/Burn and Shine/Song #1/ Every Bitter Drop/Matinee/Coming Right Along/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Saying Sorry To Myself/Thirteen/Solar Sister - Jon and Ken at Foley's, San Francisco 2/9/01 (AAUD, 90 min.) A good performance but the recording is extremely rough. Weird that Jon plays a solo song at the top of the set.
  • Please Return It/Dream All Day/Precious Moments/Golden Blunders/Any Other Way/Flavor of the Month/Like Me Too/I May Hate You Sometimes/You're the Beautiful One - Jon and Ken at Amoeba Records, San Francisco 2/10/01 (AAUD, 45 min.) A good performance but the recording is extremely rough.
  • Somehow Everything/Blind Eyes Open/Mrs. Green/Scotch and Soda/Love Letter Boxes/ Throwaway/Ironing Tuesdays/Apology/This One's Taken/At Least For Now/Compliment/Fight It/ September Gurls/Burn and Shine/Ooh Child/Keep Me Guessing/Grant Hart/What Little Remains/My Big Mouth/Long May You Run - Jon and Ken at Foley's, San Francisco 2/10/01 (AAUD, 101 min.) A good performance but the recording is extremely rough. It's Ken's dad's birthday and the boys are really on for this show.
  • Daily Mutilation/Please Return It/Flavor of the Month/Love Letter Boxes/Chainsmoking In the USA/With Those Eyes/Going Going Gone/Blind Eyes Open/covers medley/I Am the Cosmos/ Limitless Expressions/Precious Moments/Throwaway/You're the Beautiful One/Coming Right Along/Lady Friend/Chelsea/Solar Sister - Sevilla 2/21/01 (AAUD, 72 min.) The first Posies 3.0 show with Jon's solo band drummer Darius Minwalla and Joe Bass. A spirited performance although a bad cassette Walkman recording. Lots of tequila and fooling around.
  • Definite Door/Grant Hart/Throwaway/Any Other Way/Chainsmoking In the USA/Posies Theme/ Matinee/I Am the Cosmos/Fall Apart With Me/World/You're the Beautiful One/Flavor of the Month/Please Return It/Dream All Day/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar - Camden Dingwall's, London 3/5/01 (DAUD, 70 min.) This is the first of three performances at Dingwall's that week. This is only the first set without the encores. A very clear recording with some old gems tossed in with new material.
  • Matinee - Jon and Ken on XFM, London 3/6/01 (DFM, 4 min.) Sounds like some MP3 encoding but the performance is good and the announcer gives Ken some grief about his hair.
  • Throwaway/Ontario/Flavor of the Month/With Those Eyes/Chainsmoking In the USA/Precious Moments/Fight It/Flood of Sunshine/Sad To Be Aware/Matinee/I Am the Cosmos/Love Letter Boxes/I Don't Wanna Go To Chelsea/Solar Sister/Dream All Day/Grant Hart - All Ages set: Crocodile Cafe, Seattle 3/10/01 (DAUD, 80 min.) A better setlist than later with more of the new EP and organ on "Flood." Joe Bass's daughter Brett sings on "Sad To Be Aware" too.
  • Throwaway/Grant Hart/Flavor of the Month/Fall Apart With Me/I Am the Cosmos/With Those Eyes/Somehow Everything/You're the Beautiful One/Apology/Blind Eyes Open/World/Limitless Expressions/Please Return It/Dream All Day/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar - 21+ set: Crocodile Cafe, Seattle 3/10/01 (DAUD, 83 min.) A spirited performance, excellent clarity and a few Ken gems as well. NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional cardioids into a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder. Also, the Japanese bonus tracks for Nice Cheekbones and a Ph.D. were taken from a board recording of this show.
  • Find Yourself Alone/This One's For You/The Lovers Hymn/Here's To the Future/Spanish Waltz/Reveal Love/Fireflies/Fifi the Flea/Holocaust - Ken solo at Mercury Lounge, New York 3/12/01 (DAUD, 44 min.) Ken sits at the keyboard all night and turns in a great version of a classic Big Star tune.
  • 23 Below/Tuesday/Ballad of a Tolerant Destination/Baby Bitch/The Perfect Size/Josephine/ Tears - Jon solo at Crocodile Cafe, Seattle 3/28/01 (DAUD, 29 min.) A superb recording of Jon by himself and actually pretty well-rehearsed. We get a few of his post-Posies tunes and covers from Ween and Chameleons UK.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional cardioids into a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder.
  • With Those Eyes/Paint Me/Matinee/No Consolation/Lady Friend/Chainsmoking In the USA - Jon and Ken at Sonic Boom Records, Seattle 4/14/01 (DAUD, 31 min.) Ken goes acoustic and plays the Casio, Jon plays his electric TOO LOUD and the result is a bad sound mix but a good performance.
  • Love My Way/These Times/Baby Bitch/Tears/Blood and Roses/Green Eyes/Jailbreak/Allentown/ Beautiful Stranger - Jon with band at Crocodile Cafe, Seattle 5/9/01 (DAUD, 35 min.) An incredible recording of a trio show (with Joe & Darius) featuring all covers, with most of the material having its live debut. And who knew Jon was a Billy Joel fan!
  • Chainsmoking In the USA/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Throwaway/Ontario/Dream All Day/ Matinee/Flavor of the Month/Flood of Sunshine/Definite Door/Precious Moments/World/Any Other Way/Suddenly Mary/With Those Eyes/Daily Mutilation/Solar Sister/I Am the Cosmos/ Please Return It - Crocodile Cafe, Seattle 5/29/01 (DAUD, 94 min.) The full band back at it playing lots of new material. Plus a 12+ minute version of "Flood" complete with keyboard intro.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional cardioids into a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder.
  • Burn and Shine/Fall Apart With Me/Throwaway/Love Letter Boxes/Somehow Everything/Solar Sister/Dream All Day/Flood of Sunshine/Chainsmoking In the USA/Matinee/Flavor of the Month/ Grant Hart/Under Easy/Ontario/Any Other Way/I Am the Cosmos/Please Return It/Coming Right Along/Suddenly Mary/With Those Eyes - Berbati's Pan, Portland 5/31/01 (DAUD, 118 min.) Great recording, great performance. Odd to see the band open with "Burn and Shine", which often closes full-band shows.
  • Baby Bitch/Nowhere By Myself/You Used To Drive Me Around/Beautiful Stranger/Tears/Green Eyes - Jon and band at Sit & Spin, Seattle 6/7/01 (DAUD, 29 min.) Clean digital recording with the debut of Dave Einmo (Sushirobo, Head Like a Kite) on bass.
  • Tears/Nowhere By Myself/Perfect Feeling/You Used To Drive Me Around/Baby Bitch/Beautiful Stranger - Jon with band at Rhino Records, Los Angeles 7/9/01 (DAUD, 31 min.) Jon trots out another new song plus we get to hear a good cross-section of material from both of his EP's.
  • Love Letter Boxes/Dream All Day/Ontario/Fight It/Matinee/Flavor of the Month/Precious Moments/Chainsmoking In the USA/Any Other Way/I Am the Cosmos/Solar Sister/Daily Mutilation/ Grant Hart/Burn and Shine/Throwaway/Please Return It/Fall Apart With Me/Coming Right Along/ Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Definite Door/Suddenly Mary/You're the Beautiful One - The Troubador, Los Angeles 7/9/01 (DAUD, 109 min.) The debut of Posies 3.5 with the debut of Matt Harris (Oranger) on bass, replacing Joe Bass. The recording, although digital, has some line distortion.
  • Somehow Everything/Please Return It/Chainsmoking In the USA/Matinee/I Am the Cosmos/Fall Apart With Me/With Those Eyes/Suddenly Mary/Grant Hart/Throwaway/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Definite Door/Burn and Shine/Any Other Way/Dream All Day - Black Cat, Washington, DC 7/19/01 (DAUD, 76 min.) Good audience recording and they're not too drunk. Banter's pretty funny too.
  • Fall Apart with Me/Flavor of the Month/Please Return It/Somehow Everything/Any Other Way/I Am the Cosmos/Precious Moments/Suddenly Mary/Tequila/With Those Eyes/Coming Right Along/Grant Hart/Ontario/Definite Door/Burn & Shine - Met Cafe, Portland 7/18/01 (DAUD, 80 min.) Not a bad recording or performance at all.
  • Suddenly Mary/Love Letter Boxes/Chainsmoking In The USA/Solar Sister/Definite Door/ Please Return It/Burn and Shine/With Those Eyes/I Am the Cosmos/Fall Apart With Me/Fight It/ Grant Hart/Throwaway/Any Other Way/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Daily Mutilation/Precious Moments/At Least For Now/Dream All Day/Ontario/Flavor of the Month/Flood of Sunshine - Maxwells, Hoboken 7/16/01 (DSDB, 106 min.) A lot of goofing around. Converted from Real Audio stream. Good soundboard.
  • Solar Sister/Flavor of the Month/Any Other Way/Suddenly Mary/Precious Moments/Somehow Everything/With Those Eyes/Chainsmoking In the USA/Fall Apart With Me/I Am the Cosmos/Love Letter Boxes/Throwaway/Please Return It/Definite Door/Burn and Shine/Dream All Day/You're the Beautiful One - Bowery Ballroom, New York 7/21/01 (AAUD, 110 min.) A poor recording and a poor performance. The alcohol's getting the better of them that night.
  • Your Love Won't Be Denied/Find Yourself Alone/This One's For You/Spanish Waltz/Trains and Boats and Planes/Down Like Me/One Morning/Reveal Love/The Lovers Hymn/Too True/Ask Me No Questions/Here's To the Future - Ken solo at PCC Northwest Artists Stage, Seattle 9/1/01 (DAUD, 66 min.) Ken had a case of "the sniffles" but the solo performance of "The Lovers Hymn" was worth the cold. Also treated to two fine covers.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional cardioids into a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder.
  • Right of View/Tuesday/Tears/The Perfect Size/Baby Bitch/Nowhere By Myself/Green Eyes/ Beautiful Stranger/23 Below/You Used To Drive Me Around - Jon with band at PCC Northwest Artists Stage, Seattle 9/2/01 (DAUD, 50 min.) Great sound and a new song!
  • Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/World/Solar Sister/Suddenly Mary/Matinee/Somehow Everything/ Ontario/Grant Hart/Throwaway/Flavor of the Month - The Showbox, Seattle 9/2/01 (DAUD, 40 min.) The band is finally getting tight with the new rhythm section and the boys are really into this show.
  • Your Love Won't Be Denied/Find Yourself Alone/This One's For You/Spanish Waltz/One Morning/Too True/Sparrow/Fireflies/The Lovers Hymn/Here's To The Future/Ask Me No Questions - Ken solo at Cafe DuNord, San Francisco 9/8/01 (DAUD, 68 min.) Sounds a little quiet but the performance is choice. He's more healthy this time.
  • Your Love Won't Be Denied/Find Yourself Alone/Spanish Waltz/One Morning/Too True/Reveal Love/Fireflies/Down Like Me/Sparrow/The Lovers Hymn/Here's To the Future - Ken solo at Iota, Arlington 9/21/01 (DAUD, 65 min.) Great audience recording of Ken at his mopey finest.
  • Your Love Won't Be Denied/This One's For You/Spanish Waltz/One Morning/Too True/Down Like Me/Fireflies/Find Yourself Alone/The Lovers Hymn/Here's To the Future/Good Timing - Ken solo at Schubas, Chicago 9/23/01 CD (DAUD, 62 min.) Review forthcoming.
  • Ken solo at Camden Dingwalls, London 11/11/01 (DAUD, 120 min.) This show features a round-robin of performances by Ken with Mike Mills, Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey and Robyn Hitchcock, taking turns playing covers and each others' songs. Setlist forthcoming.
  • Tears/Josephine/23 Below/Gold Star For Robot Boy/No Consolation/The Perfect Size/At Least For Now/Baby Bitch/Beyond Belief/Every Bitter Drop/World/Everyone Moves Away/Sad To Be Aware/When the Lights Go Up/Beautiful Stranger - Jon solo at the Crocodile Cafe, Seattle 12/12/01 (DSDB, 66 min.) A solid performance from Jon with a just-learned cover of Elvis Costello's "Beyond Belief" and the ultra-rare "When the Lights Go Up," which he wrote for an original theatrical production. That said, there was an annoying person singing almost louder than Jon (and way off-key) at certain times. Great show though.
  • Tears/No Consolation/Josephine/Baby Bitch/23 Below/20 Questions/Gold Star For Robot Boy/ At Least For Now/Beyond Belief/What Little Remains/When the Lights Go Up/The Perfect Size/ Beautiful Stranger/Thirteen/Flavor of the Month - Jon solo at Covered Wagon, San Francisco 12/15/01 (DSDB, 73 min.) Great digital soundboard of a solo acoustic performance. Very low- key.
  • Fireflies/One Morning/Down Like Me/Reveal Love/Find Yourself Alone/This One's For You/ Spanish Waltz/Too True/Sparrow/The Lovers Hymn - Ken solo at Rakino's, Auckland 1/7/02 (DAUD, 61 min.) Ken plays the usual set in the Land Down Under, though he's really chatty, moreso than normal.
  • Tears/Beyond Belief/interview - Jon solo on BBC London 1/31/02 (DFM, 12 min.) Performance is kinda shaky and there's not much interview (Jon and the host discuss the weather, no kidding!) but the recording is crystal clear.
  • Tears/Tuesday/Pretty Picture/Baby Bitch/Josephine/Live It Down/Gold Star For Robot Boy/ The Perfect Size/Green Eyes/Nowhere By Myself/23 Below/You Used To Drive Me Around/Beautiful Stranger/Thirteen/Flavor of the Month/Love My Way - Jon with band at Upstairs At The Garage, London 2/2/02 (DAUD, 79 min.) A+: Jon and the fellas get to rockin' so hard that the bassist breaks a bass string! Recording is a little strange, since I mastered the CD from an analog minidisc dub from the minidisc master so there's an MP3-like waiver in the high end. Not too distracting though.
  • Find Yourself Alone/One Morning/Spanish Waltz/Reveal Love/This One's For You/Here's To the Future - Ken solo at Century Ballroom, Seattle 3/8/02 (DAUD, 27 min.) I was a little far back from the stage so there's more room than Ken but he is rapidly becoming a breathtaking pianist and all-around performer of his material.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional cardioids into a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder.
  • Dream All Day/Ontario/Suddenly Mary/Matinee/Chainsmoking In the USA/Who To Blame/Sad To Be Aware/Love Letter Boxes/World/With Those Eyes/Throwaway/Solar Sister/Flavor of the Month/ You're the Beautiful One/Grant Hart/Burn and Shine - The Showbox, Seattle 3/10/02 (DAUD, 85 min.) Supposedly the last Posies show again. At least they go out with a bang, bringing the rock as usual. Lots of goofy between-song half-attempts at covers. The recording is a little overdriven but not enough to detract from the overall quality.
  • Tears/Josephine/No Consolation/Baby Bitch/Beyond Belief/When the Lights Go Up/Thirteen/ Beautiful Stranger - Jon solo at I-Spy, Seattle 4/6/02 (DAUD, 40 min.) Jon is ill but still puts in a nice understated performance.
  • Spanish Waltz/This One's For You/Uniforms/Reveal Love/Sparrow/Any Sign At All/Find Yourself Alone/One Morning/With Those Eyes/Fireflies/Baby Plays Around/Your Love Won't Be Denied/Find Yourself Alone/Let Me Do/The Lovers Hymn/Solar Sister/Here's To The Future - Ken solo at the University of Washington HUB, Seattle 4/19/02 (DAUD, 78 min.) Ken turns out a classic solo show in this surprisingly nice venue on the U-dub campus. Ken plays both guitar and piano and at one point turns the mics off and heads to the middle of the audience to perform. There was some ambient noise from the heating system in the room but not enough to detract from the overall performance.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional cardioids into a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder.
  • The Perfect Size/Tuesday/Tears/Baby Bitch/Pretty Picture/Josephine/Live It Down/All U People/Green Eyes/Nowhere By Myself/23 Below/You Used To Drive Me Around/Beautiful Stranger - Jon with band at Sunset Tavern, Seattle 5/4/02 (DAUD, 70 min.) Jon and band whip out a few oldies that he hasn't played much since 1999. Great recording.
  • Let Me Do/I'd Have You Anytime/Spanish Waltz/Reveal Love/This One's For You/Sparrow/ Blues Jam/Find Yourself Alone/Down Like Me/Uniforms/Fireflies/The Lovers Hymn - Ken with The Long Winters at King's, Raleigh 5/9/02 CD (DAUD, 75 min.) Pretty much the same setlist as the rest of that tour but...a really crisp audience recording and a spirited performance.
  • I'd Have You Anytime/Spanish Waltz/Reveal Love/This One's For You/Sparrow/Find Yourself Alone/Down Like Me/Uniforms/Fireflies/You Love Won't Be Denied/The Lovers Hymn - Ken with The Long Winters at 608 Club, Somerville 5/17/02 (DAUD, 77 min.) A great performance with a new song opening the set but...the recordist lets auto-level do its thing so there's some minidisc compression. Cool show though and Ken talks lots of weird stuff between songs.
  • I May Hate You Sometimes/With Those Eyes/Going Going Gone/How She Lied By Living/No Consolation/Matinee/Fight It/Terrorized/Coming Right Along/Fall Song/Throwaway/Flood of Sunshine - Jon and Ken at Crocodile Cafe, Seattle 5/24/02 (DAUD, 80 min.) Billed as "Acoustic Posies Mayhem" and the only true part was the mayhem part. The guys did some fooling around, and at some point Jon does some Yoda impersonations. But the show is a lot of fun, with guests Sean Nelson, some guy from The Long Winters and Darius making the show eventually a full-on rock show. Ken plays keyboards a lot and there's plenty of monkeying around.
  • Tears/Tuesday/Josephine/Baby Bitch/The Perfect Size/Green Eyes/Nowhere By Myself/23 Below/You Used To Drive Me Around/Beautiful Stranger - Jon with band at Crocodile Cafe, Seattle 5/25/02 (DAUD, 51 min.) Jon's band gets more loose as it goes along, with a brutal ten-plus minute version of "Beautiful Stranger," taking the psychedelics only hinted at on 6 1/2 into the stratosphere.
  • I May Hate You Sometimes/Tears/Beautiful/Baby Bitch/When the Lights Go Up/Nowhere By Myself/23 Below/Sad To Be Aware/The Perfect Size/Golden Blunders/Jesus Christ/Thirteen/ Love Liquid Wraparound - Jon solo at Sunset Tavern, Seattle 6/13/02 (DAUD, 56 min.) Jon plays a low-key acoustic set and then brings Braden Blake up to play the last four tunes, one of which from the last Super Deluxe LP. The cracks about "Real World: Ballard" are pretty funny too.
  • Solar Sister/Throwaway/Ontario/Dream All Day/Matinee/I Am the Cosmos/Please Return It/ World/You're the Beautiful One/Sad To Be Aware/Fall Apart With Me/Flavor of the Month/Grant Hart - Fremont Street Fair, Seattle 6/22/02 (DAUD, 58 min.) The live sound is awful but the Posies do a bang-up job regardless of the Ministry-distorto vocals from the PA.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional cardioids into a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder.
  • Dream All Day/Solar Sister/Flavor of the Month/Love Letter Boxes/Definite Door/Burn and Shine/Earlier Than Expected/20 Questions/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Lights Out/How She Lied By Living/Coming Right Along/Two of Us - Jon and Ken at the Green Room, Seattle 7/7/02 (DAUD, 78 min.) Frosting On The Beater from start to finish, plus a wild version of a Beatles classic. Jon plays electric all night and both fellas were really into what they were doing this night.
  • Don't Break the Silence/You Are the Dawn/Let Me Do/This One's On You/Spanish Waltz/Down Like Me/Too True/Find Yourself Alone/Trains, Boats, Planes/Reveal Love/The Lovers Hymn - Ken solo at the Sunset Tavern, Seattle 7/11/02 (DAUD, 58 min.) Ken plays all night on the piano. First time we've heard Ken do "Don't Break the Silence" since the Saltine days, never on piano though.
  • Find Yourself Alone/Reveal Love/This One's For You/Uniforms/Down Like Me/Spanish Waltz/ Fireflies/Here's To the Future/You Become the Dawn/One Morning/Sparrow/Your Love Won't Be Denied/The Lovers' Hymn - Ken with The Long Winters at Sunset Tavern, Seattle 7/12/02 (DAUD, 76 min.) This band really knows how to back Ken! Trading off between keys, guitars and just vocals, Ken and the band worked the material with finesse and, at times, with ham-fisted emotion. Witness the 15+ minute version of The Lovers' Hymn!
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional cardioids into a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder.
  • My Big Mouth/Golden Blunders/Apology/Any Other Way/You Avoid Parties/Suddenly Mary/Help Yourself/Mrs. Green/Everyone Moves Away/Flood of Sunshine/Thirteen/Spite and Malice/Feel - Jon and Ken at The Green Room, Seattle 7/14/02 (DAUD, 73 min.) Jon & Ken play the entire Dear 23 album from top-to-bottom, Jon on electric and Ken on acoustic. With some of the D23 b-sides in the encore too! Reminds me why I am so obsessed with their music. A perfect show.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional cardioids into a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder.
  • Bitter/These Days/Mexican Wrestler/One Morning/Jet Pack/Reveal Love/Underdog Victorious/ Don't Break the Silence/Heroes/Any Sign At All/Billy's Thing/Any Love/Mary K/Come Sail Away/ Spite and Malice/Survivor/Scotch and Soda/Kathie Lee/2023/I'm Into Something Good/Small Things/Never My Love/Moon River/Que Sera/Ooh Child - Ken with Jill Sobule, Pete's Candy Store, New York 11/4/02 (DAUD, 109 min.)A+: Ken and Jill swap tunes back and forth across the stage and get together to debut a handful of co-written tunes and riff on a few covers. Ken also debuts a new solo song too.
  • I May Hate You Sometimes/Farewell Typewriter/Chainsmoking In the USA/Fall Apart With Me/ Dream All Day/Grant Hart/Flavor of the Month/With Those Eyes/Throwaway/Please Return It/ Suddenly Mary/Ontario/Burn and Shine/Solar Sister/Christmas/Wintertime Love/Christmas With the Devil/Sometimes You Have To Work On Christmas Sometimes/Merry Xmas/Little Drummer Boy/ I Am the Cosmos/You're the Beautiful One - Graceland, Seattle 12/21/02 (DSDB/AUD, 89 min.) I took two different recordings of the same show and mixed them together with Pro Tools. Has a radio concert sound to it. Anyhow, the band is good but it's the last third of the set that really makes the night memorable. All kinds of Christmas covers with the likes of Robb Benson, Sean Nelson & John Roderick sitting in on vocals. Really cool show.
  • Dream All Day/Love Letter Boxes/20 Questions/With Those Eyes/Throwaway/You Avoid Parties/Flavor of the Month/Solar Sister/Coming Right Along/Christmas - Jon and Ken at Dante's, Portland 12/28/02 (DAUD, 52 min.) Jon and Ken open up for themselves again as Big Star. The recording's kinda quiet but it's not a bad show. Even a return of Jon as Yoda.
  • In the Street/Don't Lie To Me/When My Baby's Beside Me/I Am the Cosmos/Way Out West/Til the End of the Day/Ballad of El Goodo/Back of a Car/Daisy Glaze/Thirteen/Baby Strange/For You/Feel/September Gurls/Thank You Friends/Slut/Patti Girl/Hot Thing/Big Black Car/Jesus Christ - Jon and Ken with Big Star at Dante's, Portland 12/28/02 (DAUD, 75 min.) Kind of a quiet recording but certainly the usual performance Big Star has given for the past few years.
  • Any Love/Any Sign At All/Known Diamond/Let Me Do/When U Find Someone/Your Love Won't Be Denied/One Morning/The Lovers Hymn/Nature Boy/You Drew - Ken solo at Chop Suey, Seattle 5/24/03 (DAUD, 55 min.) Ken debuts a bunch of new songs and combats a loud group of non- listening patrons in a very interesting way: he walks out IN FRONT of the mics and sings without aid of the PA. It totally worked and put the audience right in the palms of Ken's hands.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional cardioids into a Sony MZ-N10 minidisc recorder.
  • Pretty Picture/All U People/Throwaway/Beautiful/World/Bottom of the Bottle/The Perfect Size/Sick of Myself - Jon with The Capillaries at Hell's Kitchen, Tacoma 6/27/03 (DAUD, 41 min.) Certainly a great recording and an interesting performance. Jon trades out his normal backing band for Seattle's The Capillaries. We get to hear band versions of songs from the split EP and a new song, "Bottom of the Bottle."
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional cardioids into a Sony MZ-N10 minidisc recorder.
  • Ontario/Dream All Day/Any Other Way/Throwaway/Please Return It/Flavor of the Month/Love Letter Boxes/World/Fall Apart With Me/Definite Door/Burn and Shine/Grant Hart/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Suddenly Mary - Comet Tavern, Seattle 8/22/03 (DAUD, 73 min.) The band's usual bassist can't fly up for the gig so Eric from the Long Winters fills in quite admirably for a guy who's never rehearsed with the band! Jon occasionally straps on the bass for some fun. It's dirty, sloppy but completely fun.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional cardioids into a Sony MZ-N10 minidisc recorder.
  • The Perfect Size/When the Lights Go Up/Bottom of the Bottle/Swinging Party/Six Feet Under/Flavor of the Month/Flood of Sunshine/Dear Prudence - Jon with Goldenboy at Sunset Tavern, Seattle 10/31/03 (DSDB, 40 min.) Jon starts off the set by himself and then fronts Goldenboy for a trip through a handful of covers and Posies tunes, including Jon's vocals on "Flood of Sunshine." Good, clean recording too.
  • The Christmas Song/Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas/Trumpet Drum Duet/Mercury Mine/Shooting Star/Once More/Union Station/Esprit de Corps/Under My Wheels/Christmas Is Near/The First Noel/Swinging Party/Is She Really Going Out With Him/Heaven On Their Minds/ Jesus Christ/Let's Get High For Christmas/It's Christmas Time/Christmas Eve In Sarajevo/ Christmas Time Is Here Again/I Love Christmas/All I Wanted Was a Skateboard, All I Got Was This Stupid Sweater/Chipmunks' Christmas/Cold December/Be There At Christmas With You/ Christmas Reacharound/Christmas Is Here/Everything's Dark Again/Happy Xmas/Heaven On Their Minds - Jon with the Screaming Santas at Crocodile Cafe, Seattle 12/18/03 (DAUD, 117 min.) Jon, Gavin Guss and Braden Blake play some Christmas classics, other covers and some new originals too. Great recording.
  • Dream All Day/Matinee/Chainsmoking In the USA/Ontario/Suddenly Mary/With Those Eyes/ World/Fall Apart With Me/Throwaway/Prequel/Burn and Shine/Grant Hart/Flavor of the Month/ Everyone Is a Fucking Liar/Solar Sister/Finally Found a Jungle I Like - Neumos, Seattle 2/26/04 (DAUD, 86 min.) Ragged, big rock and roll. A first-time band performance of "Prequel".
  • Death of a City/Cyclone Graves/Known Diamond/Any Love/The Lovers Hymn/Here's To the Future - Ken solo at The Lounge, Austin 3/7/04 (DSDB, 30 min.) A super-clean board recording. Ken debuts a few more Soft Commands tunes in front of a polite audience at South By Southwest. This recording is an official bootleg that came with mail-order copies of Soft Commands.
  • 23 Below/No Consolation/Six Feet Under/Beyond Belief/Bottom of the Bottle/When the Lights Go Up/The Perfect Size/Swinging Party - Jon solo at Sunset Tavern, Seattle 3/26/04 (DAUD, 25 min.) Although Jon is recovering from a cold, this low-key performance is incredible.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional cardioids into a Sony MZ-N10 minidisc recorder.
  • When U Find Someone/Cyclone Graves/Death of a City/Any Love/Je Vous En Prie/Beechwood Park/Here's To the Future - Ken solo at Sunset Tavern, Seattle 3/26/04 (DAUD, 32 min.) Ken spends the entire set playing piano, debuting songs from his forthcoming album. He even tackles a fine Zombies cover.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional cardioids into a Sony MZ-N10 minidisc recorder.
  • Leave Me Be/Matinee/Coming Right Along/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Too Much Heaven - Jon and Ken at Sunset Tavern, Seattle 3/26/04 (DAUD, 22 min.) Ken plays piano the whole set, and that seemed to have thrown them off some. Though the off-the-cuff cover of the Bee Gees tune is certainly inspired.
NOTE: I recorded the master with stereo Sound Professional cardioids into a Sony MZ-N10 minidisc recorder.
  • Any Love/Death of a City/When U Find Someone - Ken solo at KEXP Seattle 7/16/04 (Dclone, 19 min.) Although it's early in the morning Ken does a stellar job. Great audio too converted from the Windows Media stream.
  • Cyclone Graves/Known Diamond/Death of a City/One Morning/Any Love/You Drew/Here's To the Future/This One's For You - Ken solo at Easy Street Records, Seattle 7/17/04 CD (DAUD, 42 min.) Another great Ken solo performance and a super-crisp recording.
  • This One's For You/When U Find Someone/Death of a City/Light My Fire/Find Yourself Alone/Any Love/You Drew/These Days/Any Sign At All/I Can't Go For That/Cyclone Graves/Here's To the Future - Ken solo at Kyber Pass, Philadelphia 7/22/04 (DAUD, 63 min.) Review forthcoming.
  • Spanish Waltz/Death of a City/Know One Knows/Let Me Do/Any Love/This One's On You/Down Like Me/Everyone Is a Fucking Liar/Love Letter Boxes/Cyclone Graves/Known Diamond/Too True/One Morning/Runaway Girl/Moon River/Grant Hart/Any Other Way/For Your Sake/Sparrow/ Here's To the Future/Je Vous en Prie/You Drew/Summer Wind/Something Stupid/Please Return It - Ken solo at Maxwells, Hoboken 7/29/04 (DSDB, 129 min.) Recorded straight off the board. Ken plays a long set and his friend Ian McGlynn joins him on keyboard later in the set. As perfect a Ken recording and performance you'll ever find.
  • Death of a City/Reveal Love/Find Yourself Alone/Any Sign At All/The Lovers Hymn/You Avoid Parties/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Uniforms/Fireflies/This One's For You/One Morning/ Grant Hart/Please Return It/Stand By Your Man/Solar Sister/Precious Moments/Flood of Sunshine/You Become the Dawn/Here's To the Future/God Only Knows - Ken solo at Tavistia, Helsinki 12/24/04 (DAUD, 128 min.) Ken has the audience eating from his hand as he takes a stroll through his songs past and present. Only problem is that the discs cut in and out, leaving five tracks completely inaudible.
  • Leave Me Be/Sweethearts of Rodeo Drive - Jon and Ken on KEXP Seattle, May 2005 (Dclone, 7 min.) Previewing the new record for Seattle's hippest radio station and playing a song or two. Great audio and performance.
  • Dream All Day/Please Return It/Second Time Around/I Guess You're right/Throwaway/Could He Treat You Better/It's Great To Be Here/Hate Song/Love Letter Boxes/Conversations/Daily Mutilation/Flavor of the Month/Grant Hart/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Broken Record/Solar Sister/You're the Beautiful One/Burn and Shine - Le Nouveau Casino, Paris 7/19/05 (DAUD, 77 min.): Review forthcoming.
  • Earlier Than Expected/Fight It/Ontario/Second Time Around/I Guess You're Right/Please Return It/Throwaway/Precious Moments/Last Crawl/Conversations/Everyone Is a Fucking Liar/ Dream All Day/Grant Hart/Flavor of the Month/I Finally Found a Jungle I Like/Solar Sister/ Coming Right Along/Flood of Sunshine - Local 506, Raleigh 9/25/05 (DAUD, 90 min.) Review forthcoming.
  • Definite Door/Solar Sister/Second Time Around/Ontario/Throwaway/I Guess You're Right/ Precious Moments/Start a Life/Conversations/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Dream All Day/Grant Hart/Solar Sister/It's Great To Be Here/Love Letter Boxes/Apology/You're the Beautiful One - Black Cat, Washington DC 9/26/05 (DSDB/AUD, 83 min.) A+: A better performance than the previous night and a matrix to boot. And notice the presence of some drum loop action this night.
  • Conversations/I Guess You're Right/Suddenly Mary/My Big Mouth/Apology/Any Other Way/Sad To Be Aware/Solar Sister - Jon and Ken acoustic at NYCD, New York 9/29/05 (DAUD, 43 min.) The band are back to playing record stores again. Another great acoustic performance.
  • When My Baby's Beside Me/I Am the Cosmos/Way Out West/Til the End of the Day/Ballad of El Goodoo/Back of a Car/Daisy Glaze/Thirteen/Baby Strange/For You/Mine Exclusively/Lady Sweet/Hot Thing/Hung Up With Summer/Feel/September Gurls/Patti Girl/February's Quiet/Thank You Friends/Slut/Dony/A Whole New Thing - Jon and Ken with Big Star at De Handelsbeurs, Gent 2/22/06 (DAUD, 92 min.) Finally after 12+ years of the reunited Big Star we get a new setlist! Cool to hear the new songs in this context (it helps to make them sound more like Big Star songs, though I still think Jon and Ken's contributions to the new album really don't fit) although Chilton just really doesn't sound into it. Ah well, it's excellently recorded.
  • Daily Mutilation/Love Letter Boxes/Throwaway/I Guess You're Right/Conversations/That Just Don't Fly/Second Time Around/Please Return It/Dream All Day/Grant Hart/Solar Sister - The Premiere, Seattle 4/16/06 (DAUD, 48 min.) B+: Recording is great, performance is rough at best.
  • Bottom of the Bottle/Song Noir/Daytime Lullaby/Josephine/Angelita/Cemetary Song/Lady Sweet/Wicked World/Six Feet Under/You Used To Drive Me Around/Sundown - Jon solo at Sunset Tavern, Seattle 4/27/06 (DAUD, 50 min.) Jon debuts the better part of his spectacular new album on the downlow with a rare performance of the song he wrote for the latest Big Star album.
  • Bottom of the Bottle/When the Lights Go Out/Josephine/Four Letter Word/Six Feet Under/ Beyond Belief/23 Below/Angelita/Gold Star For Robot Boy/The Year of Our Demise/Sundown/ Wicked World/You Used To Drive Me Around/Swingin' Party - Jon solo at Local 506, Chapel Hill 5/6/06 (DAUD, 69 min.) Jon hits the road and this recording is about as crystal as can be.
  • Any Love/You Drew/Find Yourself Alone- Ken solo at Bay Beats, Singapore 7/18/06 (DAUD, 45 min.) The recording quality is pretty bad but it is a very strange recording. Ken plays a few songs and fields lots of questions about his music and his roles as a producer and a sideman in REM. In fact, he talks much more than he plays!
  • Josephine/At Least For Now/Mrs. Green/Coming Right Along/The Year of Our Demise/Angelita - Jon solo on KEXP Seattle, September 2006 (DFM, 18 min.) Another great KEXP session.
  • In the Street/Don't Lie To Me/When My Baby's Beside Me/ Am the Cosmos/Way Out West/Til the End of the Day/The Ballad of El Goodo/Back of a Car/Thirteen/For You/Feel/September Gurls/Lady Sweet/Mine Exclusively - Jon and Ken with Big Star at Taste of St. Louis 10/1/06 (DAUD, 60 min.) Great quality audience recording but very skimpy on the new material. Until the last two songs it feels like virtually every other Big Star show since 1993!
  • Cemetary Song/The Year of Our Demise/Bottom of the Bottle/Josephine/Sundown/Beyond Belief/Angelita/Throwaway/You Used To Drive Me Around/Six Feet Under/Flavor of the Month/ Green Eyes/Baby Bitch/Definite Door/Coming Right Along/Conversations - Jon solo at Tavistia Klubi, Helsinki 11/12/06 (DAUD, 101 min.) Well, look who's been taking tips from Ken Stringfellow! Jon's solo shows are usually low-key almost somber affairs. Not this show. Jon tells stories, jokes, asks for audience participation AND walks into the crowd to play a song without the aid of the PA. Good to see Jon shake it up. This is a weird recording that has heavy emphasis on the left channel, like the recordist was sitting in a weird position.
  • Cemetary Song/The Year of Our Demise/Bottom of the Bottle/Josephine/Angelita/Lady Sweet/ Throwaway/You Used To Drive Me Around/Flavor of the Month/Six Feet Under/Coming Right Along - Jon solo at Crescendo, Norrköping 4/15/07 (DAUD, 110 min.) More of the same on Jon's new lease on solo live performance. He's an entertainer now!
  • Throwaway/I Guess You're Right/Every Bitter Drop/Who To Blame/Hate Song/Please Return It/Apology/Terrorized/20 Questions/Earlier Than Expected/Flavor of the Month/Precious Moments/Conversations/Fall Song/Dream All Day/Solar Sister/Definite Door/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar - Jon and Ken at Borderline, London 11/28/07 (DSDB, 100 min) A very sedate performance, but it is probably one of the best-recorded shows I have.
  • Throwaway/Please Return It/Going Going Gone/Matinee/Daily Mutilation/Song #1/Hate Song/ Believe In Something Other/Burn and Shine/You Avoid Parties/Dream All Day/Ontario/Flavor of the Month/I Guess You're Right/Conversations/Solar Sister/I May Hate You Sometimes/Love Letter Boxes/Who To Blame/Coming Right Along/World/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar/Lady Friend - Jon and Ken in Melkweg 4/26/08 (DSDB, 115 min.): Review forthcoming
  • Children of the Sea/Yours For the Taking/No Vacancy/Best Mistake/I Got Tired/Get It Right/Oslo/There's a Law/Cause or FX - Ken with The Disciplines at Finnair Stadium, Helsinki 9/9/08 (DAUD, 45 min.): Review forthcoming.
  • Dream All Day/Solar Sister/Flavor of the Month/Love Letter Boxes/Definite Door/Burn and Shine/Earlier Than Expected/20 Questions/When Mute Tongues Can Speak/Lights Out/How She Lied By Living/Coming Right Along/Start a Life/Please Return It/Daily Mutilation/Ontario/ Throwaway/Everybody Is a Fucking Liar - Gasteszena Festival, Sala Jarano 10/19/08 (Dclone, 89 min.): Review forthcoming.
